All Dead Rails Classes feature abilities and items that give you an upper hand at the start of a round.
Which class will you pick in Dead Rails? To purchase these classes, you’ll need to know how to get Dead Rails Bonds!
Dead Rails Classes
There are 13 classes in Dead Rails, each of which comes with starting items and unique abilities.
Doctor
- Costs: 15 Bonds
- Appearance: Adds a black bowler hat to your avatar
The Doctor class is your resident healer. They spawn into a round with a selection of items that heal themselves and team members. By sacrificing half of their current HP, they can revive an ally that has been defeated – without the requirement of bandages! This saves in-game money in the long run.
When starting a round, the Doctor class brings 2 bottles of Snake Oil, 2 Bandages, and 1 Shovel.
Ironclad
- Costs: 100 Bonds
- Appearance: Covers your avatar in metal armor from head to toe (technically your ankles, but you get the point!)
The Ironclad class is effectively the tank of the team. With such heavy armor, they are able to withstand attacks much more than any other class, due to their high defense measures. However, because of this, their overall movement speed reduces by 20%, making them pretty slow.
At the start of a round, the Ironclad class brings along Left Shoulder Armor, Right Shoulder Armor, 1 Helmet, 1 Chestplate, and 1 Shovel.
The Alamo
- Costs: 50 Bonds
- Appearance: Equips your avatar with a metal helmet
Similar to the Ironclad class, the Alamo focuses on maintaining defense. The main difference is that this class prioritises fortifying the train itself.
The Alamo class brings along 1 Helmet, 3 Barbed Wire, 3 Metal Sheets, and 1 Shovel.
Arsonist
- Costs: 20 Bonds
- Appearance: Your avatar wears a black cowboy hat
The Arsonist is all about causing damage! When attacking enemies, they deal 2x the normal amount of Fire DMG. Their bag includes 4 Molotovs and 1 Shovel, making them a simple class to use, but highly effective in combat.
Conductor
- Costs: 50 Bonds
- Appearance: You wear a train conductor’s hat
When you’re driving the train, its overall speed increases. However, because of your main purpose, your maximum HP is halved and you do not start with a weapon. After all, this class is all about moving the train and not fighting! The Conductor starts with 2 Coal.
Cowboy
- Costs: 50 Bonds
- Appearance: You wear a brown cowboy hat
A balanced start! You enter a round with ammo, a horse, and a ranged weapon. You get all of the most important pieces of gear from the get-go. Cowboys start with 1 Saddle, 2 Revolver Ammo, 1 Revolver, and 1 Shovel.
Miner
- Costs: 15 Bonds
- Appearance: Your avatar gets a safety hat with a torch attached
The Miner’s main task is to light the way when traversing dark areas, like the mines. Their job is to gather coal for the train, and they even start a round with some! As a Miner, you enter the game with 2 Coal, 1 Pickaxe, and 1 Mining Helmet.
High Roller
- Costs: 50 Bonds
- Appearance: You wear a white cowboy hat
As a High Roller, you obtain 1.5x more coins when collecting moneybags, making you an ideal team member for saving up some extra cash. However, that luck is balanced out as you are 10 times more likely to be struck by lightning. High Rollers only start with 1 Shovel!
Vampire
- Costs: 75 Bonds
- Appearance: You get a vampiric quiff haircut with white streaks!
Vampires move much faster than other classes but you cannot walk in the sunlight unless you want to take damage. They’re best staying on the train until the sun sets. As a Vampire, you start with 1 Vampiric Knife and 1 Shovel.
Priest
- Costs: 75 Bonds
- Appearance: You have a golden chain with a cross
You gain an automatic immunity to lightning when it strikes! Priests are mainly useful as they start a round with 2 Holy Water, 1 Crucifix, and 1 Shovel.
Zombie
- Costs: 75 Bonds
- Appearance: You sport a dark green hat
Zombies can eat dead bodies to replenish their HP! The only downside is that this is the only way for them to regain HP, as Snake Oil and Bandages no longer work. As a Zombie, you are less likely to be spotted by enemies, but start a round with just 1 Shovel.
No Class (None)
The base class that every player starts with in Dead Rails. It has no modifiers or starting abilities, making it a weak choice overall. However, the one positive is that you get to start a round with a shovel, which is… good, I guess?
