99 Nights in the Forest Ending - Ending Explained, About The Deer, and Future Updates

Is there more to the 99 Nights in the Forest Ending than meets the eye? And considering it’s left on a cliffhanger, what does it mean for the next 99 Nights in the Forest update? We’ll go through all of our thoughts and theories! If the game wasn’t scary enough, did you know that the game is based on a real story?
99 Nights in the Forest Ending
If you reach the ending, a cutscene plays out. This shows the Deer holding its hand out as if to reach for something, before turning away and entering its hideout. We see it pull the metal bars to the sewer apart, and it turns to the side for one last look. A note then appears on the screen saying:
“More story and an ending will be revealed soon. Stay tuned for future updates.”
So, what does this mean? The ending of the game leaves a lot open to interpretation, and it’s clear another update is on the way. The final cutscene keeps the eerie and mysterious nature of the day, and we can only hope to find out more about the cultists, the children, and who the Deer is.
Who Is The Deer?
Fans and players have taken to theorising about who, or what, the Deer is. A popular theory is that the Deer is the 5th child who is protecting their siblings. To become a deer, they asked the cultists to transform them.
Or, another theory is that the Deer is a mother to the children. Throughout the game, it’s clear the Deer has a parental side, such as when they make sure the children have toys in their rooms to make sure they’re happy.
One final theory to mention is that the Deer is a result of scientific experiments. One of the pages you can find mentions a lab, so perhaps that lab has something to do with it?
