The ESWC curse that was broken last year by Olav "Creolophus" Undheim is back. The ESWC curse implies that an Electronic Sports World Cup gold or silver medalist never reaches the grand final at World Cyber Games. Creolophus killed the curse when he in 2007 added a WCG gold medal to his already ESWC silver.

This year's ESWC champion, Du Seop "WhO" Chang had been on a downslide after his incredible run in Paris, but was still a strong contender for the WCG title, at least qualifying for the playoffs. But being paired in a group with Kejing "Like" Li, Martin "Bonecracker" Husak and Andrew "mOOn-GLaDe" Pender, the Korean Orc was unable to go through his group.

The Czech Republic player Bonecracker was the only player together with Grubby take a game off WhO in ESWC. Today it was obvious that Bonecracker continue to be an unlucky charm for the Korean star.

After having lost to both Like and mOOn-GLaDe in the earlier rounds, WhO needed defeat Bonecracker in order to have a theoretical chance to advance. But being reliant on other results in the last rounds, things did not go the Korean's way.

Group E will instead see Like and Bonecracker advance, with Bonecracker on top after defeating aforementioned Chinese player in the group stage. Bonecracker will now go up against ToD, while Like is paired up against Happy.
