Dramatic Finish!
The score was deadlocked at 2:2 when the final submatch between DeMusliM and Kpect was postponed. The winner of the final submatch would earn a coveted WC3L berth; The loser would go home empty handed . . .
Demuslim 2:1 Kpect
Game 1: Terenas Stand
DeMusliM spawns north; Kpect south. Kpect seizes the initiative by forcing a town portal after encircling the Archmage (AM) with DeMusliM's own forces at the mercenary camp! However, DeMusliM bounces back, by expanding south while Kpect's Death Knight (DK) chases his AM around the board(insert yakity sax music here). Kpect is determined to pick off the expansion, but accidentally agros the creeps at his natural on route to DeMusliM's expo. However, Kpect's assault delays DeMusliM from acquiring tier 2 units; The delay proves fatal. . . Kpect's DK and Panda arrive with their yellow hardhats and begin demolishing towers. DeMusliM counters with sapper harassment, but Kpect ignores the paltry towers and begins slicing into the vulnerable peasants. DeMusliM succeeds in driving Kpect from his expo. However, Kpect's superior hero levels eventually prove overwhelming. DeMusliM's expansion falls, and he calls GG after Kpect guts his main.
Game 2: Echo Isles
Unlike game 1, DeMusliM seizes the initiative by severely wounding Kpect's ghoul army. As a result, DeMusliM creeps his mercenary camp practically unopposed. Next, DeMusliM presses his advantage by expanding. Although Kpect mounts a challenge, DeMusliM's towers succesfully repel the invaders. At 8:57 DeMusliM takes a calculated risk and retrains his AM with blizzard. A cold snap sets in for Kpect as DeMusliM's AM destroys the goldmines at Kpect's main and expo with blizzard. DeMusliM's gold advantage quickly translates into a larger army and wins DeMusliM game 2.
Game 3: Turtle Rock
The players close spawn on the north side of Turtle Rock. Kpect opens with harassment, but quickly succumbs to the phrase "Turnabout is fair play:" DeMusliM surrounds Kpect's DK and forces him to burn a town portal. Both players briefly creep some more before reaching tier 2. At tier 2, DeMusliM executes a devastating tower rush and quickly overwhelms Kpect to win the match 2-1.
