The first episode of Blizzard's podcast series has been released and contains two interesting interviews regarding, of course, Blizzard Entertainment's extremely successful franchises StarCraft and WarCraft.

In the first interview Kevin Yu, Blizard's Community Manager, interviews the popular Art Director Sam "Samwise" Didier. In it, we are given a glimpse of how the different characters from the WarCraft and StarCraft universe have been developed and how the work with StarCraft II is progressing.

A lot of interesting topics are brought up, such as how the idea for the Pandaren Brewmaster came up when Samwise was drawing a Christmas painting for his family and how StarCraft and WarCraft concept art differ from each other. Also, Sam tells us how he applied for the job back in 1991 after seeing a tiny ad for it in the newspaper.
Karune: How would you kind of describe Warcraft art versus StarCraft art?

Samwise: Well, the Warcraft art is a little bit more over-the-top, you know. That’s why you see people running around with giant shoulder pads and their weapons are two-handed weapons but they’re carrying them one-handed. Each hand has a giant two-handed weapon. Warcraft is really, like, hyper-fantasy, you know, real high concept fantasy. There’s machinery and guns involved in Warcraft and then with StarCraft it’s a little bit more, like a little bit dirtier, you know. Everything’s not as polished and shiny. There’s a little bit more grit to the texture of the art.
The second interview mainly regards World of WarCraft as the Lead Designer for the game, Jeff Kaplan, is put under the spotlight. Follow the link below to make your way to the podcast.
