On August 21, MeetYourMakers was up against Mousesports, in a match that proved to be the beginning of a long losing spree for the all-Korean team. With mega stars such as Moon, Lucifer, Susiria and Storm, MeetYourMakers was with no doubt expected to have a clear shot in defending their title from previous season. However, the Germany-based Mousesports defeated MYM, after great play by SaSe, Giacomo and TitaN. A surprise indeed, even though the Mouz players had been smoking hot.
Next up were the rivals of the Devils from Korea - Four Kings. 4Kings with a flag from United Kingdom to honor Tillerman has many times stood in the way for MeetYourMakers. However in the WC3L finals MeetYourMakers won, as well as in the NGL-One finals. The 4Kings ghost seemed to be gone, but in the following match they were back. The superstars ToD, FoV and Grubby took down the Makers, in yet another 2-3 loss.
4Kings, World Elite and Mouz - all playoff teams
MYM's losing spree
MYM < Mouz 2-3 Monday, August 21
MYM < 4Kings 2-3 Thursday, August 24
MYM < WE 1-4 Monday, September 11
MYM < hoorai 1-4 Sunday, September 17You could say that this period, during playday four to seven MeetYourMakers were up against heavy opponents. Mouz, 4Kings and now World Elite. Teams that have top notch players and always seem to place well in clanleagues. World Elite proved to an even tougher opponent for MeetYourMakers, losing the match 1-4. Only player to score a point for MYM was Lucifer. After this match people were criticizing the MYM lineup. Many wanted to see the Danish player Ciara in the main lineup who had done very well in inCup. Despite that, Ciara moved to the Danish squad of MeetYourMakers.
hoorai, last Sunday. A need-to-win match for MeetYourMakers. hoorai was not really counted as one of the strongest teams compared to SK-Gaming, World Elite and 4Kings and was expectning a win. "MYM has faced all major rivals, they get some easier opponents.", but the pre-match commentator Ohjeohje still said hoorai had been playing good lately. Ending in a loss 1-4, something was wrong.
- I have no explanation as to what happened against hoorai. I guess the players have been feeling a lot of pressure to perform well as everybody want's to beat the champions, and maybe it has affected their play, says Nordahl to GosuGamers.
Losing spree finally over - but was 3-2 against ONE enough?
MYM vs. ONE 3-2
Lucifer > SouthSea 2-0
Storm > FarSeer 2-1
Moon < Bifrost 1-2
Susiria > GoStop 2-1
Moon
Susiria < Rainbow
FarSeer1-2However all things come to an end, and that saying applied to the MeetYourMakers losing spree, as they faced ONE-Gaming today, and won 3-2. Not really a comfortable win for a team that needs to score as many points as possible, but still a win. But against ONE-Gaming, shouldn't three points be a satisfying outcome?
- I think if is a hard question to answer. I believe the lineup gave room for a better score, but there was some miscommunication before the match as my Internet went down so the 2on2 ended up with a substituted player instead of a postponement. It is nobodies fault, but Jae Ho [Moon] and Jung Ki [Susiria] are not used to playing together and I believed one of our original combinations could have done better, says Nordahl.
With this win, MeetYourMakers have 20 points, but are still ranked sixth. Do they still have a chance in reaching the playoffs? Nordahl thinks they have a decent chance of making the playoff if they keep performing.
- The question will then be who we face, and we might be in for a very hard match as most likely they will get to choose the maps, but we will just have to keep fighting and believe it to be possible, he says and points out that they can't start second guessing or worrying about making the finals at this point.
- At least the players can't, I worry about it since playday 1, Nordahl says and smiles.
