
Both Paper Rex and RRQ will represent VCT Pacific for VALORANT Champions.
Paper Rexare the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Champions after defeating Rex Regum Qeon at the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Grand Finals on Sunday (31 August).
The two teams were the last two surviving after over a month and a half of action among twelve other teams in the VCT Pacific.
In the Group Stage, Paper Rex dominated Group Omega, securing first seed 4-1, and guaranteeing them an early spot in the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Meanwhile, RRQ came in third place in Group Alpha, which earned them a spot at the Playoffs in the Lower Bracket Round 1.
In the Playoffs, Paper Rex tore through the upper bracket with two consecutive sweeps, first against T1in the Upper Bracket Semifinals, and then against Talon Esports in the Upper Bracket Finals, to make it to the Grand Finals.
On the other hand, RRQ had to survive through the rest of the lower bracket, taking down South Korean favourites Gen.G Esports 2-1 in the Lower Bracket Round 1, sweeping DRX2-0 in Round 2, defeating T1 2-1, and outlasting Talon 3-2, to make it to the Grand Finals.
Here's how the matches played out:
In the first game on Bind, Paper Rex breezed through most of the matches, taking the first half 10-3. However, RRQ found ways to counter Paper Rex for a few rounds, catching up to the Singaporean team,12-8. However, Paper Rex were able to close out the map 13-8 to win the first match.
Ilya “Something” Petrovwas named the MVP of the first game, for being able to set up his team to win crucial rounds throughout the match.
On Ascent, Paper Rex were completely on fire, using different tools to maintain an aggressive pace, taking ten rounds in a row, with clean coordination among members and Jason “f0rsakeN” Susantoclocking in multikills throughout. RRQ finally won their first round right before the Singaporean team took another flawless round to close out the first half 11-1. In the second half on the defending side, RRQ were able to take advantage of misreads on plays on the map by their opponents, securing five rounds, and preventing PRX from closing out the game while on map point. After a timeout and a few more rounds, however, PRX were able to finally take down RRQ to win the second match 13-7, and take their team to matchpoint. f0rsakeN was named MVP of the map because of his dominant plays on Ascent.
Unwilling to back down without a fight, RRQ fought back on Lotus, keeping up with the Masters Toronto champions in the first half, and even catching up to Paper Rex 6-6 after clutch plays from Cong “crazyguy” Anh Ngo. In the second half, RRQ successfully built a lead against their opponent after successfully winning consecutive rounds. With a flawless second half, RRQ successfully closed out Lotus 13-6. Jemkinwas notably named the MVP of the match.
In the fourth game on Haven, Paper Rex bounced back in the first half, gaining a comfortable 8-4 lead against RRQ. In the second half, RRQ tried to catch up, however, Paper Rex held the line and continued to dominate the match. Eventually, the Singaporean team closed out Haven 13-7 to win the fourth game and the series 3-1.
With their win, Paper Rex take home US$100,000 and become VCT Pacific's first seed into VALORANT Champions. This is also the team's third VCT Pacific title. Something was also recognised as the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Grand Finals MVP
Meanwhile, RRQ bow out of the competition in second place, taking home US$65,000 in consolation, and securing VCT Pacific's second seed into Champions.
