Soulkey's comeback against Bomber made for the most hard-fought quarter final series

The tournament that gathers all GSL and WCS Korea champions from this year is down to the final four. The games continue tomorrow with the two semi finals.

Symbol and Rain were the opponents in the first quarter final and in all three of the games played Symbol was not playing his best to say the least. His incredibly greedy opening on Derelict Watcher created a bit too many windows for Rain to abuse. After cancelling the fourth of the Zerg and engaging his zergling/infestor army head-on, Rain took the lead with ease.

The next two games were equally one sided. A zealot/MSC rush ended Symbol on Whirlwind and an unending warp prism combined with constant denying of his fourth was his undoing on Bel'Shir Vestige. With a convincing performance, Rain became the first Hot6ix Cup semi-finalist.

A similar zealot rush to the one that took Symbol's life on Whirlwind came to open the series against Dear and RorO and gave the lead to the Protoss. The back-to-back WCS champion was on the way to doubling the lead on Frost after the Zerg botched his pool first rush until his immortal/gateway rush ran straight into a massive roach/hydra concave.

The Yeonsu set came dangerously close to going into RorO's favor as well, after the Zerg caught Dear's stalkers out of position, forced a recall and counter attacked with a powerful swing. The Protoss champion would not allow another mistake to cost him a game, however, and warped in clutch dark templars to dispose of the hydra army. A few more DT warp-ins - this time right into RorO's main - destroyed the income of the Zerg and forced him to GG shortly after. A closing set on Polar Night arrived to eliminated RorO out of the tournament.

Maru delivered soO a severe beating in the third quarter final played earlier today. The Prime youngster came well prepared and his build orders were as crisp as they were deadly. His mech play on Yeonsu started slow and was almost conquered by an influx of 30 mutas in the mid-game but his spell casters saved Maru once the late-game arrived. Viewers were treated to some seeker missiles fireworks that tore soO's army to shreds and gave Maru the 1-0 advantage.

Maru continued to be in the dominating position until the end of the series. An 11/11 proxy rax won him a quick game on Whirlwind while a flaming hellion rush delivered him the Star Station set after killing upwards of 60 drones.

In the fourth and last quarter final, Bomber was on his way to a clean 3-0 sweep against Soulkey. The 4M parades of the Terran had won him Bel'Shir Vestige and Derelict Watcher and a comeback seemed like a tall order for the WCS Korea 1 champion.

It was on Yeonsu that Bomber started to crumble. A baneling bust caught Bomber severely undeprepared with just a couple of marines out and Soulkey started his comeback. On Whirlwind, Soulkey met one very inattentive to his bio Bomber and after waging a long pure bio vs muta/bane war, Soulkey was able to pull off the perfect baneling connections and tie the score. Final game was played on Polar Night and saw Bomber going for a +2/+2 marine/siege push through the middle, a strategy that was quickly identified, surrounded and dealt with by the Zerg. Splitting his units between killing the Terran army and charging into his main was what Soulkey needed to take control of the game and after dealing with Bomber's desperation SCV all-in, the Zerg had turned it around 3-2.
