World Wide Invitational: sAviOr Versus Mondragon Part 2?
As the well respected conference held by Blizzard draws nearer and neared more of the details begin to sift through.
Just recently over at rakaka.se, replays.net, and myMyM.com all released lists that were rumored to be the confirmed players for the WWI 2008. MYM came out first with a prediction of Mondragon, F91, Idra, and Strelok for the foreigners and possibly Jaedong or Bisu. rakaka and replays.net released their lists at nearly the same time, and after review rakakas list has been decided as the more concrete of the two.
A Special Concert With the Maestro
The finals players invited to the World Wide Invitational 2008 are a good reflection of the current scene in Korea and abroad. While MYM was dead on with the foreigners they went zero out of 2 on who would come from Korea, possibly having overlooked both Jaedongs and Bisus commitments this upcoming weekend in Pro League. So who has been invited by Blizzard to duke it out for a hefty sum of cash?
World Wide Invitational 2008 Players
"sAviOr" Ma Jae Yoon
Little introduction needed for this five time MSL Finalist and three time Champion, considered to be the best Zerg of his time and maybe all time he has since fallen from his throne. Ma Jae Yoon failed to gain a seed in MSL and OSL, has recently fallen out of both the GOM Classic and the GSI all while struggling to gain back some faint memory if his dominance.
"Sea" Yum Bo Sung
Sea has long been one of the most consistent players around in Korea, he is a threat to any player out there right now. He has been the staple Terran at MBC Hero for some time now, while more dominant players have come and gone Sea has held tight. Sea does his team proud in the Pro League quite often but has yet to obtain any league titles.
"Stork" Song Byung Goo
Long known as a mediocre Protoss player Stork stepped his game up in 2006-2007 helping his team to a Pro League Final and Winning the World Cyber Games over Chinese player Pj. Recently he has gained the nickname "ChokeToss" for his habit of losing in the finals or when the pressure is really on as he did in the GSI finals and the OSL finals, both against Golden Boy Flash.
"Siz)KaL)" GooHyun Kim
This Protoss player from STX Soul is a force to be reckoned with and though maybe not as known he has just as much chance at taking this whole thing as any of the others do. He went to the MSL finals against #1 KeSPA Jaedong, while he gave up the gold medal to young Lee Jae Dong he proved that he is a contender for the Protoss throne.
The Drums of War
As the weekend draws nearer it brings with it the looming challenge one again of a group of foreigners trying to prove that they can do it just as well. Though historically their chances are slim especially since the level of play in Korea has risen so much since the last meeting of some of these players. Last year Bisu took the title against all odds and put yet another head upon his wall. With some of the same faces attending this year will we see an upset? Can anyone of these players defeat the pro-gamers?
NO VACANCY
the World Wide Invitational has been sold out for some time now and unless someone has some serious connections the chance of getting in is nil. Many more events are planned for the weekend including a WarCraft 3 tournament, a World of Warcraft PvP tournament, costume contests, Blizzard Discussion Panels, and hands on time with StarCraft 2. Not to mention the rumors of a possible Diablo 3 announcement looming dark over head (WWI 2008 is on the release date of Diablo 2). This looks to be the best WWI yet, and of course GosuGamers will have full coverage on the ground brought to you by our beloved Swedish power trio Vildamalin, Raistlin, and Mazor.
