After having the GosuBet and the Database open for about two years now, we felt that it was time to change some policies, event ratings and more. We have decided to put more focus on leagues and organized events rather than all the showmatches out there.

The ranking and the GosuBets have been taking heavy criticism with being biased, unfair and not structured. We saw random showmatch here, random showmatch there, and lots of other organized matches has been put in the shadow and have not been added the way it should.

After a time of discussion we have set up a set of changes to both our rankings and our GosuBet sections, a change we believe will make the GosuBet and most of all the rankings more accurate and fair.

Clan Wars

West Server Clan LeagueFirst of all, we have decided to extend our rankings when it comes to clans. Before we only added matches from the highest division of WGTour Clan League, BWCL Premier League and some other cups, and of course all of those friendly clan wars which we all added up. This created an unfair clan ranking, where teams that only played friendly clanwars against lesser known teams would go up lots of ranks without actually being better than the other teams. Therefore we have decided to focus more on leagues itself. We now extend the ranking for clans by adding WGTour Clan League Division 2, West Server Clan League and Brood War Clan League Division 1.

With these changes we would also like to change our stance when it comes to "Friendly Clan Wars". Seeing as how it is just a friendly clan war with nothing at stake but the honor (sometimes not even that) we have decided to rate them 0, meaning the clans won't get any from playing them. Most of the friendly clan wars will still be bettable, but when it comes to the ranking the friendly clan wars will not be added in.

We would much rather have a ranking based on high quality leagues where we know there is a managing crew behind it. Quality, not quantity when it comes to the ranking.

With our rating system we have set different ratings for leagues depending on the teams taking part and how competitive it is. FragBet and WGTCL Divison 1 are 1.5, while WGTCL Division 2 and BWCL Division 1 are 1.0.

Nation Wars


When it comes to Nation Wars we will add all the matches played at the WGTour Nation Wars ladder, and Nation War events, cups and similar. With the World Cup Season 2 coming up they will have an event of their own, while regular nation wars will be added into a different event and/or instance. We strive to add as many nation wars as possible, even with B teams playing.

Showmatches


Showmatches has become a major issue at our GosuBet and Rankings system. We have many times been contacted by people saying they played a certain player on Battle.Net, saved the replays and then asking us to add it as a friendly showmatch in order for them to gain points in our ranking. This is not how the ranking is supposed to work. Sadly, matches like these have slipped through our system lots of times, but with these changes we will put an end to it.

Every showmatch that gets added should be organized by a serious non-clan site. With serious non-clan sites we mean GosuGamers, TeamLiquid, Broodwar.de, WGTour and similar ones. We have lots of time seen clan sites adding their players in a showmatch against other players and therefore give them a boost in our rankings once they win. Therefore we have decided to do the same thing as we do with friendly clan wars. In order to let you users to keep on betting on exciting showmatches but that aren't included in the rankings, we will put them in the event "Friendly showmatch", with the rank 0.

This also means that the previous matches played as "friendly showmatches", will not be recounted once we update our Rankings. This will make some changes in our rankings, but with our new policy we believe it's for the better. The other events we have in our event list that comes from all the clan sites will remain, but when new showmatches comes and the site in particular does not fulfill the requirements or have the enough management behind, it will be added as a regular showmatch, meaning zero points. Keep in mind that it is still in the GosuBet for you to bet on.

Not enough matches to base a ranking on?


With removing all the showmatches you might say it will be a heavy blow on matches we will base our ranking on. Wrong. It will be a better ranking, a more fair ranking based on league performances instead of regular showmatches out there. We will add more so called "individual matches", which means matches played in clan leagues such as the WGTour Clan League (both Division 1 and 2), FragBet matches and more. These matches are ones that are played officially and are being played for a purpose in a league that matters. We will also add certain nation cup matches to the individual ranking as well, such as the playoffs for the World Cup Season 2 to mention one.

We would very much like to have your opinion on the way we do our rankings. We strive to have it as accurate and fair as possible. We would also like to remind you that we have open positions in the GosuBet team, and you are most welcome to apply. With the strength of the community we can make this a good ranking that reflects how good players, clans and nation wars play in official matches.
