Eight players have qualified for the playoffs after a full day of group stage matches. The topnotch players Legionnaire, Mondragon and JayStar did not advance, something that raised an eyebrow on quite a few.

To see iloveoov ending with an all-kill did not really surprise anyone. Though the one to advance behind the mighty Terran was a bit more blurry. Many had their hopes up for Legionnaire, not only for his great manner and his experience playing in Korea but because of his bronze medal last year. But instead Legionnaire lost all his matches except for the one against Vietnamese player ThuocLao. Instead we got to see LaMeR advance again, just like last year.

Group B was the most exciting group. To read an in depth analysis of Group B go to the previous newspost. In short, Draco came out on top showing his strenth, and Midas barely advancing, scoring the same score as Mondragon but due to Midas defeating Mondragon.

Group C was a really close one. Odin came out on top, and then three players ended with 9 points each. Dashwriter won against both Ptak and Vanilica and therefore took the second spot after the Brazilian player.

Group D had quite a number of surprises. The Chinese player JayStar was expected by many to advance due to being of Chinese origin. However the other players proved too strong. The Kazakstan player Masterok impressed many, losing only to ZelotITO. ZelotITO and Masterok ended with the same points. Close thereafter was Hungarian player KaShu on nine points.
Tomorrow groups E to H will be played. Expect the same coverage tomorrow from World Cyber Games 2006.
