The Dutch WCG organization has officially released the games that will be sponsored and sent to Singapore to compete with the best of the best at what they do. The only problem is, there is no Brood War for this country this year.

"Dit jaar zullen gamers zich kunnen kwalificeren in FIFA Soccer 2005, Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne en Halo 2."

These were the words that most of the gaming community of the Netherlands read and gawked at. This simple message stating that the Netherlands would be sending players for each of those four games. I first saw this message and thought there was a major typo in the message. Thinking to myself, "Wow these guys are pulling an April Fools joke a half a year early." Than I looked into the story more deeply and found out what I was staring at was sad but true. That little country in the northwest part of Europe would not send any Brood War players to Singapore this year to compete.

What is the reason for this? The lack of sponsors and player interests. Last year the players organized themselves and paid for their own trips. This was not repeated this year since most of the top players have all gone inactive in some form or another. Strafe, NazguL, and Twisted all play poker now a days. Ret will start playing everyone once and while than he will quit again. But, there is a rumor he is smurfing it up on PGTour. With the top gamers for the Netherlands all inactive the sponsors all have looked in different directions and started sponsoring other games.

Last year's tickets for the Dutch players cost around €515 Euros. This year's tickets, €1,500 Euros; the price increasing significantly. The Dutch players still have hope for next year though. But, we will just have to wait and see what happens with the Dutch community and if it will be able to regain its former acitveness.
