It's finally here; the StarCraft player database and ranking based on all non-Korean events and leagues! A database we all together manage, list all smurf accounts, build up a merit base with pictures and information about each player!
For many years, the Gosu Gamers Database has been one of our big dreams. A place where we could list all top players, and in particular the non-Koreans, and rank them individually. A place where you can go look up merits and old statistics of top players, everything nicely organized with pictures and general information about the players as well. Additionally, the database will include a ranking similar to that of the KeSPA based upon results from events and leagues organized by the StarCraft community.
If it is successful, the database will increase the value of events without great prize money. The consequences of this is that each match is the same important regardless of event as long as it is entered to the database. As an addition, the database rankings are counting a walk over as a loss, assuming both players had agreed with the administration about the date and time. This was included after inspiration from the neighbour gaming community of Counter-Strike. A famous norwegian CS-league recommended it; in their tournament, the requirement to participate is to pay €50 which you will lose permanently if you walk over a single match. That's a model which would not work in StarCraft, yet, but compare it to great sports event; there is no option not to show.
Apart from the walk over, the database will hopefully result in a lot more. Sponsors interested in creating new sponsored clans might easily look at the database rankings to see the overall ranking of the non-Korean players, instead of having to know everyone's smurfs and nicks everywhere and to count it to their own summary of who are the best players. Since each player profile features a column called "clan", clan administrators can easily pick up the players highly ranked but currently clanless.
The name, Gosu Gamers Database, is indeed written with a space in the middle of our site name intentionally. It's because the database is just that; a database for the most gosu gamers.
Needs to be filled with information; share what you know!
What the database now is lacking is the information about each player. We need everything from pictures on the ones missing, clans and date of birth to smurfs, other nicknames and new players added to the database. Since each gamer has a profile with comments, anyone can easily post an suggested update so that the information can be more up to date and accurate. We need your constant help to shape it in order to have the latest information about the players.
Who can be in it?
The best thing about the database is that anyone can be in it. Adding every StarCraft gamer there is would not be very partical, however, so we've decided to add some of the most obvious ones for now. We have not made any ranking in skill what so ever, the database at the moment is totally neutral meaning that it lies no judgement upon players currently not listed. We've simply added the ones we're writing the most frequently about. We will expand the database (such as at the team liquid tour 2 where we added every participant) as more events are coming up.
We hope you will enjoy our new gosu gamers database! Feel free to post comments or feedback below! Spread the word!
