The people behind WCG will together with Samsung and Deutsche Messe AG host an event later this spring called Samsung Euro Championship. The tournament will take place in Hannover during the CeBIT expo. Around 300 gamers from 30 nations will be invited to this European eSport event which will be a kick-off event for the real WCG.



CeBIT IS THE WORLD'S BIGGEST COMPUTER EXPO with over 500,000 visitors and 10,000 journalists visiting, and will be a perfect place to hold the Samsung Euro Championship. "This shows the importance of the CeBIT even in the entertainment and gaming market." says Ms. Lübon, Sales Director of CeBIT, thrilled that CeBIT was chosen as the platform for this event. The computer expo is located in Hannover, Germany, and the Samsung Euro Championship will be held in one of the halls at CeBIT being over 6.000 sqm.

Biggest eSport event in Europe


The 10th of March and three days forward, 300 gamers from 30 European nations will be invited to this tournament with a total of 150.000 € in prize money. This is no doubt the biggest eSport event in Europe, and is explained by WCG as a kick-off to the new World Cyber Games season. The main sponsor behind the event is of course » Samsung Electronics who see themselves as an a innovative company and with a strong relationship to the gamers, according to Mr. David Song, Vice President of European Marketing of Samsung Electronics Europe.

All costs will be covered by the sponsors


Unlike for some nations in World Cyber Games 2004, this event won't cost the players anything. In the » official press release, they wrote that all expenses were going to be covered.

"For sure, all costs like travelling, accommodation or catering for more than 300 invited players will be covered by the support of our sponsors."

Inviting European WCG'04 players


The 300 European gamers for this event will be the ones who played in World Cyber Games 2004 in San Fransisco. Meaning that StarCraft players like
ToT)Mondragon(, 3wD.Christian and TreK[cF] will be there, representing their country once again, only this time with the European scene.
