Blizzard determined that the Terran Korean NaDa would be the number 1 seed of the event for StarCraft. Number 2 seed would than be Reach who is than followed by the 3rd seed Yellow. But what is an event without the 4th seeded Protoss, Nal_rA? After that the rest of the four seeds are non-Korean players. Fisheye is the 5th, than Pj, than SEn at the 7th, coming in the last seed, but surely he is never forgotten, Eriador.

The way Blizzard decided to start off Round One is to set up the first seed with the last seed. Why do tournaments always do this some may wonder? This is mainly so that all your so called good players will end up in the finals while your so called bad players will just be hanging out in the dust. But with a lineup for the first round like this one, you cannot say that this is a match between good and bad rather than Korea versus the world.

Maps

Into The Darkness II
Coulee
Signal
Nightlight
Luna The Final

Five maps to choose from and play on in this event. The first round is a best of three round, which means of course that three out of the total five maps will be played, unless there is to be a one sided match. The lower seeded player will veto, or get rid of, one map that he dislikes, then the higher seeded player will do the same. Than finally the three remaining maps will be played all at random.

Prizes

Now, Blizzard would not be flying out some of the world’s best players just to play for nothing. There is a total of $15,000 USD in cash just for StarCraft: Brood War alone! The winner of the event will be getting a very nice prize package of $10,000 USD, while the runner-up will be sitting pretty with the 2nd place prize of $5,000 USD. But to give you an idea of how much Blizzard is "handing" out for the entire event, $31,000 USD in total prizes for both StarCraft: Brood War and WarCraft III. Now who wouldn't want to play for all that cash?

Outside Coverage

Everyone remembers how rS.Tasteless[9] and WaCKSteVeN both helped to make the WCG Grand Finals in Singapore really interesting? Well although Chris "WaCKSteVeN" Iannitti sadly will not be around to do anymore StarCraft: Brood War coverage for any event. But Nick "rS.Tasteless[9]" Plott has promised the entire community that he will do his best to make WWI 2006 the best it can be. His current employer Radio ITG was so impressed by his work at the World Cyber Games that they offered him a position as a shoutcaster on their crew for this Blizzard event.

» Global Gaming League will try to provide some outstanding video coverage for the event, which will be quite interesting. » Here you can try to tune in for the event. But, if video streams are not good enough or you are not good enough for them, you can be equally as happy with » Radio ITG's audio coverage, which luckily can be found » here.
