Gen.G Esports have set up a classic ‘LCK vs LPL’ match-up against Top Esports in the Mid-Season Invitational upper bracket semifinals.

In the second upper bracket quarter-final series of the Mid-Season Invitational, it was Gen.G Esports who came through with yet another 3-0 sweep, this time against the likes of Fnatic. Despite this being Gen.G's first series of the tournament, they were still able to take down the LEC second seed with relative ease to move up to the upper bracket semifinals where they will go up against Top Esports from the LPL.

As for Fnatic, that loss doesn't mean they are out of the tournament quiet yet; instead, they will now have to fight their way back to the grand finals via the lower bracket. However, their first match-up in the lower bracket will be against Team Liquid, who lost to Top yesterday in the opening series of the Bracket Stage.

There was plenty of attention surrounding Gen.G and how well they can perform on the international stage, given they have yet to make a grand final at neither MSI nor Worlds yet. But all that was put to rest by the end of the first match against Fnatic as Gen.G was able to power through from the start of the game. And at the helm of Gen.G's dominance was Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, whose Corki was instrumental in the team obtaining a strong lead from the early game.

Chovy ended the first game with seven kills and five assists alongside a sole death. And he would further add to that tally in the next two games. His Aurelion Sol in the second match proved to be a clutch pick as Gen.G were able to withstand Fnatic's pressure, particularly from Hyeon-taek “Noah” Oh as his Lucian was one of the team's shining stars with seven kills, five assists, and three deaths. Unfortunately, it still wasn't enough as Gen.G managed to put any potential Fnatic comeback to rest.

And it was Siwoo “Lehends” Son on Nami that proved to be a crucial pick-up as his 17 assists was what helped push Gen.G through to the finish line. The third match was Lehends' second with Nami and he also managed to put in another stellar performance, this time alongside Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu's Sejuani. While Lehends picked up three kills to go with 15 assists and five deaths in the third game, Canyon had 18 assists to go with two deaths.

It's also worth noting that despite Gen.G's dominance, Fnatic had actually put up a great fight despite the opposition they were against. Marek “Humanoid” Brázda was also able to pop off in the third game as his LeBlanc was doing its best to get the team back into contention with his nine kills, seven deaths, and three assists.

Unfortunately, Fnatic just couldn't put out enough firepower as compared to Gen.G, who were miles ahead in terms of damage distribution in all three of its core players. Both Chovy and Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan were the stand-out stars for game three as the former's second game on Aurelion Sol had an even better outing with nine kills, one death, and six assists. Peyz's Lucian was also crucial in Gen.G's win as he also nabbed nine kills but had more deaths with four as well as more assists with nine.

Check back tomorrow for more action from the Mid-Season Invitational as we look forward to the third quarter-final series of the Bracket Stage. This time, it will be between the LPL's Spring Split champion Bilibili Gaming going up against the unrivalled kings of the PCS, PSG Talon.
