The hope of the West continues to soar, with both LCS and LEC first seeds still in the top four.

The fight for survival continued at the 2026 League of Legends (LoL) Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2026, as four teams entered the Lower Bracket with no more second chances left.

When the dust settled, the Western teams stood strong. LYON had stormed past Team Secret Whales (TSW) in a clean 3-0 sweep, bringing the LCP side's MSI run to an end. Meanwhile, G2 Esports  have overpowered T1 in lengthy series that ended 3-1.

LYON began their Bracket Stage run against FURIA Esports in the first round of the Upper Bracket. They survived that opening battle, but were sent down to the Lower Bracket after Bilibili Gaming swept them 3-0 in the next round.

TSW also dropped into the Lower Bracket after a rough 3-0 defeat to Hanwha Life Esports in their opening series. However, the LCP representatives came roaring back against Top Esports, pulling off a 3-1 upset to eliminate the LPL side and keep their own tournament run alive.

T1, meanwhile, had to fight their way through the Play-ins. The reigning World Champions swept Team Liquid Alienware 3-0 to qualify for the Bracket Stage, but were knocked into the Lower Bracket after their opening Upper Bracket series against BLG. However, T1 quickly bounced back with another clean 3-0 sweep, this time against FURIA.

G2, on the other hand, pulled off a reverse sweep against Top Esports 3-2 in the Upper Bracket, but  lost to Hanwha Life Esports, who swept them 3-0. That set up a do-or-die showdown against T1, with only one team able to keep their MSI 2026 run alive.

Here’s how the matches went.

LYON sweep Team Secret Whales 3-0 at MSI 2026

LYON and TSW came out swinging in Game 1, trading aggressive plays as the two teams battled for control. Neither side was willing to back down, but LYON found the better end of the exchanges and began pulling ahead. With a 13-9 kill lead, they closed out the opening game in 28 minutes to take the first step towards the next round.

Game 2 was a much more dominant showing from LYON. Once they took control, TSW struggled to slow them down, allowing LYON to stretch their advantage beyond 13,000 gold and tear through their opponents. They finished with a 16-8 kill lead in 29 minutes to move to match point.

With their MSI run hanging by a thread, TSW kept fighting in Game 3 and continued looking for aggressive plays, but LYON repeatedly turned those attempts against them. The game descended into a scrappy battle, and while TSW tried to force their way back into the series, the fights simply did not pay off. LYON eventually shut the door with a 17-11 kill lead, taking down TSW's Nexus in 33 minutes to complete the 3-0 sweep.

G2 Esports overpower T1 3-1 at MSI 2026

There was barely anything separating T1 and G2 in Game 1, with the two teams trading blows throughout the game as the gold lead remained razor-thin and repeatedly swung from one side to the other. Neither could break away, pushing the battle beyond the 40-minute mark.

The breakthrough finally came in the mid lane, where G2 caught T1 in a decisive fight and wiped out the reigning world champions with a clean ace. With no one left to stop them, the LEC side secured the Baron before marching down T1's base. After nearly 46 minutes of back-and-forth action, G2 took down the Nexus with a 26-21 kill lead to strike first in the series.

Game 2 started with another close battle, but G2 quickly began punishing T1's mistakes. The LEC side repeatedly outplayed their opponents when openings appeared, while their tanky team composition made it increasingly difficult for T1 to break through. G2 eventually took complete control, finishing with an 18-8 kill lead before smashing through T1's base and destroying the Nexus in 31 minutes to move to match point.

Backs against the wall, T1 made sure to put up a fight in the third game. G2 held a slight edge through the early stages of Game 3, but the game turned around in small wins and skirmishes, and later a team fight erupting in the jungle. This time, T1 came out on top, taking down multiple members of G2 and opening the door for the reigning World Champions to secure the Baron buff and finally take control of the game.

T1 cracked open G2's base and ran away with the gold lead from there, closing out Game 3 with a 27-18 kill lead in 30 minutes. They destroyed the Nexus to extend the series and keep their MSI 2026 run alive.

In the fourth game, T1 held the advantage for most of the game. However, G2 continued to hold on, scaling their champions and making it difficult for their LCK opponents to deal with their tankier members in team fights. G2 eventually flipped the gold lead around, extending the game to more than 40 minutes once again, and cracked T1's base open after taking one Baron. But T1 refused to back down, defending their base from the siege and taking down members of G2. This allowed them to take the Elder Drake. However, G2 divided T1's attention across the map, with one member taking down the Baron solo, and the others going for T1''s weak defenses. And despite T1's inhibitor turrets respawning, it only delayed the inevitable as G2 cracked T1's base slowly once again, and finally taking down T1's Nexus in a gruelling 50-minute slugfest, with a 34-27 kill lead.

With their win, LYON and G2  advance to Lower Bracket Round 3 on 9 July, where they will face each other in another five game series to secure the Lower Bracket Finals

Meanwhile, Team Secret Whales and T1 bow out of the competition in 5th to 6th place, taking home US$160,000 in consolation. This is the first time T1 has not reached the top four in a tier-1 LoL Esports competition.
