Esports' greatest icon isn’t done yet: Another chapter begins for Faker and T1.
It looks like the League of Legends (LoL) G.O.A.T. still wants to do a lot with T1. Five-time LoL world championSang-hyeok “Faker” Lee has signed with T1 until 2029, extending his terms with the organisation for another four years. This was confirmed during T1 Home Ground on Sunday (27 July), and later on announced on the official T1 LoL X account:
“With ‘Faker’, becoming a symbol of esports beyond League of Legends, T1 is ready for another legendary chapter with him,” the post read.
T1 also shared a video to the fans attending during T1 Home Ground, the annual live event where T1 hosts official League of Legends and VALORANT matches in a large arena setting, outside the standard league venues, with the aim of giving fans a true “home game” experience. The video was also uploaded on T1’s official YouTube channel:
The Greatest Of All Time: Faker’s legacy with T1
Faker is the most decorated League of Legends player of all time. He made his professional debut with SK Telecom T1 (now T1) in 2013, and quickly became known for his unmatched mechanical skill, game sense, and champion versatility. Faker won his first World Championship in 2013, followed by further victories in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, Faker and SKT reached the finals but lost against Samsung Galaxy.
It took five years until Faker and T1 reached the Grand Finals at Worlds, and this time with the famous ‘ZOFGK’ roster. However, the South Korean powerhouse fell against the tournament underdogs DRX led by Kim “Def” Hyuk-ku, who succeeded with their Cinderella run from the Play-ins until the Grand Finals, where they defeated T1 in a heart-stopping and unpredictable five-game series 3-2.
The ‘ZOFGK’ roster reached three Worlds Grand Finals, and won two back-to-back titles. After the heartbreak, Faker had to take a break in Summer 2023 due to a wrist injury and was temporarily replaced by Poby. Once he got back, he rallied the ZOFGK roster in a historic run at Worlds 2023, finally claiming the fourth title.
On the same year, T1 barely qualified for Worlds, having clinched the fourth and final spot for the LCK at the very last minute. Despite this, the ZOFGK roster, led by Faker, dominated throughout Worlds 2024, allowing the team to claim their fifth title. Faker was notably named the Finals MVP, marking his second Worlds MVP title (with the first awarded in 2016), for outstanding, game-changing performances in Games 4 and 5 against Bilibili Gaming.

In July 2024, T1 won the League of Legends event at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, defeating Top Esports 3‑1 in the final.
Throughout his career, Faker has also claimed ten LCK titles, two Mid‑Season Invitational victories (2016 and 2017), and numerous personal accolades.

With four more years locked in for Faker with T1, it looks like there’s a lot more that the LoL GOAT wants to give and show in the coming tournaments.
