EDward Gaming is now tied with T1 for first place.

EDward Gaming has eliminated Cloud9 from Worlds 2022, being the first NA team to do so. It was a do-or-die match for the LCS team for what started with a bang but ultimately ended up with a whimper. That win now puts EDG tied with T1 for first place. They will have a chance to go ahead shortly in their next match against Fnatic.

Despite starting the day off on the best start possible, C9 could not make it work against the reigning champions. From the get-go, EDG was the dominant team in the landing phase, completely zoning out C9 while also taking key kills in various skirmishes. Their rotations around the map to either gank a different lane or take an objective were what won them the game.

C9 needed to be able to soak up the early game pressure from EDG but could not keep it up for long. To put into perspective how well EDG corralled and controlled C9 throughout the game, the boys in blue only managed one kill the entire game. As for EDG, they were farming kills as if it were nothing, mowing down C9 whenever the chance arose.

Four of the five members kept perfect KDAs with Tian "Meiko" Ye being the sole casualty. However, that didn't cause much of a dent as he went on to have an incredible game on Thresh, registering two kills and 15 assists. This meant that he took part in almost 90 per cent of the team's total kills.

Park "Viper" Do-Hyeon was another standout player for EDG, taking eight of the team's 19 kills while also getting five assists. His gameplay on Aphelios showed just why she's one of the highest-rated champions at Worlds this year. It was a typical EDG performance in a nutshell with their deathball strategy suffocating C9 from the start.

EDG will be in action once more, this time against Fnatic. One more win and they secure their spot into the playoffs. And depending on T1's following game against C9, EDG could very well finish top of the group. But if T1 does win, it will set a showdown with EDG to determine who tops Group A.
