Champions Winter kicks off with several strong performances

Champions Winter 2014 began with best of twos this week, with SK Telecom T1 K, Samsung Galaxy Ozone, and Xenics Storm leading their groups. Group C gave us close games with both best of twos going 1-1.
The first best of two series came out of Group A, and it featured World Champions SKT T1 K against the newly formed Team NB. NB squeezed into Champions Winter with a very strong qualifying performance, but they were still no match for the World Championship veterans who took the series with an impressive 2-0, netting both Faker and Piglet MVP standings. Next, Group B gave us a much closer series between Incredible Miracle 2 and Najin Black Sword. Both teams took a win, foreshadowing how hotly contested the Group B spots into the round of eight might be. Finally, Samsung Ozone finished the first day with a 2-0 victory over Alienware Arena. Dade was able to secure the Zed pick and make up for his poor showing at Season Three World's.
On the second day, games continued with the first best of two series in Group D. Xenics Storm had a shaky first victory against Jin Air Greenwings Falcons, but converted their momentum into a swift and decisive closeout in the second game. In the next series, SKT T1 S, SKT T1 K's new sister team, split victories with the WCG representatives, CJ Entus Blaze, demonstrating that there is hope for new blood this season. To close out the weekend, Group B gave us another very close series between Samsung Galaxy Blue and KT Rollster Bullets. Proving that their run in the WCG qualifiers was not a fluke, Samsung Blue took the first win as Deft increased his reputation as a powerful Lucian player. In the second game, however, KaKAO's Lee Sin plays gave KT Bullets an early lead that they struggled to hold onto, but ultimately followed through until the end.
