Riot continues to elaborate on the plans of their overhaul in the upcoming Season 4 patch. Tons of minor changes are being applied to enhance the competitive enjoyment of the game.
While great strides were taken in ensuring the game's quality in Season 3, the addition of items, a reiterated jungle, and the introduction of sighstones specifically were not enough to change the flow of the game. Season 3 did feature a much more aggressive metagame than season 2, but junglers and supports were still impoverished to playing a non-carry role and being ward bots respectively.
Supports are being tweaked in a unique way which established them as a massive playmaker and impact, increasing gold without making them carries. This rewards playing support correctly while grabbing stats that compliment the actual utility of your abilities instead of just damage, making alternatives to cooldown reductions and health an attractive choice.
Furthermore, objectives have taken a different direction too, with dragon becoming increasingly important as the game duration drags on and becoming a potential comeback tool. Baron will no longer give extensive teamfight statistics and will, instead, be utilized to aid sieging.
Aspects of the game being changed in the preseason:
- Kill/assist gold
- Game and objective timings (when things spawn etc)
- Objective values/rewards (Turrets, Baron, Dragon, etc)
- Experience
- Inhibitor mechanics
- Death timers
- Map layout & brush changes
- Jungle
