In line with Blizzards transparent design practices, Heroes of the Storm designers participated in a massive reddit AMA with the attempt to answer as many community questions as possible. Rather then go through all 800 + comments your self, we complied all of the most interesting bits of information in one list:
On Hero reworks
- Malfurion's generic talents are being looked at to better fit the lore of the character. Most likely M.U.L.E and Scouting drone.
- Arthas and Anub'arak are some of the oldest heroes in the game and are planned to be redesigned in order to better reflect the modern game.
- Anub'arak is likely going to be redesigned as an anti-mage warrior similar to Stitches.
- Artanis is getting some sort of baseline Zealot Charge to his kit. Kerrigan will likely be buffed with some number adjustments.
- There are no plans to rework Tyrael's trait.
- Minor buffs to Abathur's Monstrosity are coming in the future.
- Blizzard thinks Jaina and Kael'thas are in a good place and have not been made weaker in the latest patches.
- The cool down on Mighty Gust is being looked at.
- Johanna's Knight Takes Pawn is something on our radar
- Gilnean Cocktail's Incendiary Elixir talent is looking to be changed so it no longer removes the skill cap of the ability.
On design philosophy
- Cho'gall and Li-Ming have been 2(3) of the hardest heroes to balance. Surprisingly, Arthas has also been very hard to balance due to how old the heroes design is.
- Blizzard is trying to avoid just making "better Vallas" and "better Muradins"
- Blizzard is up to the option of adding third heroics. The best candidate for that is Zagara, as there are currently no real options other than Devouring Maw.
- Blizzard doesn't think every talent tier on every hero needs to have the same spike in power level.
- Sylvanas had a previous heroic ability that, after channeling for X seconds, would set a player's health to 1 hit point.
- Blizzard is looking to add questing talents to as many heroes as possible.
- Specialist used to classify a hero that was good at lane pushing and destroying structures. Now it more accurately means any hero that "May not be as straight forward in their game-play as others" and needs some "out-of-the-box thinking" to play.
- When asked about Burst damage vs. Sustained damage, Blizzard doesn't want assassins always lumped into either category
- Dehaka's abilities purposefully have a bit of delay to them to keep these abilities from being too powerful.
- Part of their day-to-day workload is browsing forums, looking at player perception and player feedback.
- More talents like Nova's Snipe Master are on the way.
- One of Blizzard goals going forward is to make heroes have clear strengths and weaknesses, and they don't want to give them talents that give them an out to overcome those weaknesses.
