EDG wins their qualifying bracket, awaiting the winner of the Day 2 bracket in Masters Gaming Arena China qualifiers.
The qualifiers had a slightly complex qualifying structure. First there was a six team open qualifers with the top two teams progressing to the BO3, single elimination, four team bracket. The latter was also BO3 with the winner advancing to the Grand Finals. The same structure will happen tomorrow; an open qualifier, four team qualifer and the winner facing off against EDG for the single China qualifying spot.
In today's action, Newbee and SPT won the open qualifiers and faced off against EDG and YL respectively. Interestingly, Newbee selected EDG as they beat SPL in the open qualifiers and got to select their opponent. On this day though, the invites were supreme. Both EDG and YL relatively easily beat the challengers to face-off in the Day 1 finals.
In the Grand Finals, YL took a quick Game 1 victory behind a dangerous Valla/Sylvanas/Illidan core. Game 2 started off choppy, literally, as about ten minutes poor network conditions forced a match restart. In the re-made game, EDG played a fantastic control game on Sky Temple for the victory. EDG took game 3 behind a double warrior lineup with Tyrael and Johanna, with Jaina and Sylvannas from behind.
By winning Day 1, EDG proceeds to the Grand Finals tomorrow to play against the Day 2 winner. The winner will qualify for the LAN Grand Finals August 28-30. Already we've seen the EU/MEA qualifiers, last week was the APAC qualifiers, and tomorrow we will see who the China representative will be.
Day 2 will start at 10:00 CEST. All games are streamed on Twitch here.
