We take a look at competitive drafts before and after the Sylvanas patch to determine the clear winners and losers.
Our stats section is directly tied to our competitive Heroes coverage and draft database, meaning we have a unique opportunity to take a step back and take a look at the big picture of pro hero selection. Many of they stories and talking points gleamed from this data are easy to understand (and quite expected) but it is the subtle details that go "unfelt" that are most interesting to look at.
For example, we all know Jaina is insanely powerful since the Sylvanas patch, and her incredible rise to the third most picked hero from relatively obscurity is evidence of this. Our data just proves what everyone already knows, similar in respect is the competitive success Sylvanas has seen; the hype was real and she is the 7th most picked tournament hero.
Before Sylvanas Patch After Sylvanas Patch
But who could have predicted the sharp drop off of SGT. Hammer? The hero is just as strong as it was pre-patch (despite a relatively small HP nerf) but due to the Stitches and Nazeebo nerfs, the defensive style lineup she excelled just doesn't work anymore. Even Tyrande, one of the most buffed heroes from last patch has seen a drop in play due to the Stitches nerf.
But with drops come rises. Diablo is officially "a thing" and is considered a top tier pick. E.T.C continues to have no weaknesses, and the versatility choosing drafting him early to build either a Stage Dive or Mosh Pit Lineup is very strong. In a meta where The Lost Vikings is a serious threat (although still niche and banned enough to not warrant the most picked list) the option for E.T.C to remain in lane soaking while threatening his presence at a team fight is no joke.
And of course, as it is with every month that passes, Valla still continues to be the most versatile, catch all hero in the game. She is the iconic and ideal ranged assassin, capable of just about everything you want in a hero. Her nerfs were slight, and our fear still betrays us all in the wake of her clear dominance.
That is all for now, stay tuned for our next stat report or, if you don't have the patience, check it out your self.
