The following data was taken from all major tournaments since the first February balance update with a goal to reflect the most current state of hero picks. It is worthy of note that Li-Ming has been largely banned in the majority of these tournaments due to how recent her release has been. Tournaments sampled include:

  • Heroes Championship Katowice
  • Enter the Storm EU Cup #4
  • Enter the Storm NA - Cup #2
  • Super League 2016 - Season 1
  • Heroes Spring Regional- Los Angeles

  • Kael'thas's pick rate has plummeted since previous patches, as the nerf to Arcane Barrier, Gravity Lapse, and Phoenix just can't be ignored. In his place, Jaina is the superior choice and the picks show this.

  • Rehgar's rework was success, in the sense that a previously ignored hero is now the most contested support  in the game. The balance changes to him seem fair and haven't drastically lowered his pick rate.

  • Muradin, Tassadar, E.T.C and Zagara appear resilient to any meta changes, as they are consistently near the upper parts of the top 10 heroes picks. Tassadar in particular has almost always enjoyed his top tier status.

  • Thrall's pick rate has fell significantly while Greymane's pick rate has exploded. Players seem to have gotten comfortable with the hero's dive potential and his burst damage is perfectly suited for the meta. One might even say that Thrall and Greymanes low-ish place among the top 10 hints at a shift away from heavy burst damage.

  • Mighty Gust on a stick AKA Falstad still enjoys a healthy pick rate. This won't change as long as Mighty Gust stays the way it is right now. Buffs to his hinterlands blast and ability damage are negligible.

  • Tyrandes spot in the sun is officially over, as she is still a strong pick but no where near last months power spike. Raynor has suffered the same fate.

  • Lunara rose from Gazlowe levels of pick rate to beating both Raynor and Valla in tournament popularity. This is especially notable, because as she was released, she was compared against those specific heroes for those who argued her uselessness. The tables have turned.

  • Uther, the hero who has reigned on the top three Hero picks for what seems like the longest period of time ever is ranked 15th place. At this current state of the game, there's too much poke and burst damage flying around making Uthers long cool down heals a huge liability.

  • As a result of this reality, Tassadar's ability to pre-shield (with Khala's Embrace) and negate burst damage with a timely shield makes him perfect for the current meta. The same can be said about Rehgars AoE heals and Ancestral healing.
