Blizzcon 2015 is less than a week away, and Blizzard fans across the globes are in full-on speculation mode towards what kinds of announcements are coming our way. And with Heroes having grown so much since last year’s event, forums across the internet are ripe with predictions. But how much is going to be announced? What type of content are we going to see? The best way to deduce that is to take a look back at last year’s Blizzcon, and see what was announced for Heroes back then.

Blizzcon 2014 – The Scope of the Game

Before we look at the announcements, we need to take a look at the size of the game last year compared to now.

Wow! Heroes was very much in its infancy last year. With only 31 heroes and 5 battlegrounds, it’s like an entirely different game! These numbers are important to know due to the games popularity from last year to now. The HotS audience is much larger at this point in time due to its availability; only a select few were able to play Technical Alpha, and the competitive scene for the game was almost non-existent.

Blizzcon 2014 vs. 2015 – The Announcements

Last year’s announcements featured a total of 4 new heroes – Sylvanas, Thrall, Jaina, and The Lost Vikings – as well as 2 new battlegrounds in Sky Temple/Tomb of the Spider Queen. That’s a lot of new content! So what does that say about this year’s announcements? Well, it’s safe to say that number is a good baseline for 2015. So a total of 4 new heroes and 2 bew battlegrounds doesn’t seem too farfetched, considering how much bigger the game is now compared to last year. A Czech site also rumored that they were to introduce “two new maps and at least four new heroes”, which falls in line with these numbers. (Source and more on that here!)

However, do we expect to see more? Will there be more heroes revealed this year compared to last year? One could infer that since the game has been released and has a bigger audience, we can expect bigger announcements. It’s not necessarily an unsafe wager.

Last year's announced heroes - who will the crew be this year?

We do have to keep in mind, though, that Blizzard does want to space out the announcing of their content. While I’m sure they have many more than 4 heroes envisioned in their release schedule, they want to space out the reveals of those heroes to keep players enthralled. In my opinion, the number from last year – 4 heroes, 2 maps – will probably stay the same. It’s enough content to warrant a major announcement from their convention, and still enough to allow reveals further in the future.

What do you guys think? How much Heroes content do you expect to be unveiled at Blizzcon? What heroes are you looking to see announced?
