Philippines get back on the winning track as Adik takes GosuCup SEA #11

After getting multiple players in the top 4 of GosuCup SEA but lacking a champion since the sixth edition, one of the region’s best Hearthstone nations finally took another victory.
It’s no secret how good the Filipinos are at Hearthstone. The country has been performing excellently throughout both seasons of GosuCup SEA and currently is tied with Singapore in the GosuCup nation rankings.
Yet for more than a month, championship has evaded them. It was in Cup #6 when the Philippines last triumphed as Zadkiel had to slay fellow compatriot and former GosuCup champion Wespogi on his way to the title. Since then, their countrymen have tried many times to reach the top spot, but all have failed.
The championship almost escaped the Filipinos once again. After he defeated plenty of local players Alvin “Adik” Cambaya reached the grand finals only to be paired against the GosuCup 2014 grand champion Wong Zi “AkiSera” Wen, a player with proven track record and one of the best Hearthstone veterans in the Southeast Asian scene.
Expectedly, AkiSera didn’t go down easily and the grand final series was dragged to full five games. Finally, in a battle between Patron Warrior and Zoo, Adik was able to stabilize from single-digit health and turn it all around, defeating AkiSera’s demon horde.
GosuCup SEA #11 standings
1. Adik - $300 + 20 HWC points
2. AkiSera - $100 + 10 HWC points
3-4. Staz - $50 + 10 HWC points
3-4. Xtacious - $50 + 10 HWC points
5-8. Killscythe – 1 HWC point
5-8. Candycane – 1 HWC point
5-8. Jensonccs – 1 HWC point
5-8. CrazyMageeee – 1 HWC point

As evident from the above standings list, this week was all about Philippines and Malaysia duking it out, with a pinch of Vietnam in the top 8. While this established the Philippines as the leading country after week #11, it also marked Malaysia as the country to challenge the trio of Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. It’s still good 14 points behind the top 3, but there are five more weeks to go and with Malaysia’s players getting exceedingly better results, nothing is out of the question yet.
GosuCup nation standings after week #11
1. Philippines – 46 points
2. Singapore – 39 points
3. Vietnam – 29 points
4. Malaysia – 15 points
5. Indonesia – 8 points
6. Thailand – 6 points
7. India – 3 points
