The all-Filipino grand final went to full five series before Ranjay “Zadkiel” Avila could beat his good friend and former champion Wes “Wespogi” Tan for the grand prize.

After back-to-back championships for Vietnam, the ranking leaders from the Philippines decided it is time to take matters in their own hands. Fortunately for them, two of their best players heeded the call.

From the top half of the bracket, it was GosuCup #3 champion Wespogi who crushed skulls and hopes to make it to the grand final. The former victor had to play several tough opponents, including his countryman Genji27 and one of Vietnam’s finest in Nexxgen.

From the bottom half came a new challenger. Zadkiel, a veteran from the local Filipino scene, has been trying to get a GosuCup championship of his own but without much success until now. Despite being good friends with Wespogi, he meant to make this his breakthrough.

Wespogi’s punches, however, were solid. He opened the series with back-to-back wins on Warlock and Mage but his Dragon Warrior control couldn’t seal the deal. In fact, that was the deck that became his downfall, ultimately losing to Zadkiel’s Patron Warrior for a full reverse sweep.

2. Wespogi - $100 + 10 HWC points

In the country race, the Philippines and their two representatives in the grand final climbed up above Singapore and the latter lose their leadership position since the start of the season. It’s a 5-point lead to that, meaning Singapore will have to do quite well in GosuCup #7 if it was to reclaim the throne.

But Singapore doesn’t only have Philippines to worry about. Having two players in the top four also gave Vietnam a hefty boost and they’re now just two points behind the runner-ups from Singapore. This also shapes to be a very separated top 3, as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia are all very behind with 4 points each.

1. Philippines – 24 points
2. Singapore – 19 points
3. Vietnam – 17 points
4. Malaysia – 4 points
4. Thailand – 4 points
4. Indonesia – 4 points
7. India – 1 point
