Kratos is getting recast in Amazon’s live-action God of War TV series. 

Amazon’s God of War TV series might have found its new Kratos. According to Variety, the live-action TV adaptation has been searching for a replacement for Ryan Hurst, who was originally set to play Kratos before suffering from a bicep injury. The outlet reports that actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista is now in talks to play the titular demigod. 

Who is Amazon casting as Kratos in God of War?

According to Variety, the God of War TV adaptation is currently looking at Dave Bautista to play Kratos, the titular protagonist of the series. The role was formerly played by Ryan Hurst (The Odyssey), who had filmed four episodes as the character before tragically suffering from a torn bicep injury on the set of the series. 

Hurst was reported to require surgery for the injury, putting him out of commission for the rest of the series’ production. This led Amazon Prime Video and Sony to recast the role, with plans to get production back up and running by Fall 2026. 

While Bautista is reportedly in talks to join the role, his casting has not been confirmed just yet. Amazon has given God of War a two-season order, adapting the story of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok. This would mean that Bautista would likely have to commit to a full two seasons of the series as Kratos, and step into the role relatively quickly to make the production start date this fall. 

Callum Vinson is still attached to play Atreus in the series. The series also recently locked in Ed Skrein to play Baldur, along with Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, and Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri.
