Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Marvel's upcoming fighting game, will host a free Open Beta from 24 to 26 July across PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

The generous Open Beta–which feels more like a limited-time demo–will give players access to a substantial portion of the game ahead of its imminent release on 6 August. However, several features will remain locked until the full launch.

During the Open Beta, players will be able to try out 16 playable characters, various game modes, and a slice of the Episode Mode, offering a bite-sized comic-style narrative for free. Read on for everything included.

What is included in the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta?

Players will be able to play 16 of the 20 characters available at launch. Hulk, Carnage, Loki, and Deadpool will remain locked until the full release, while the remaining roster will be available to try. The roster was initially announced to be 15, but recently bumped to 16 with the inclusion of Green Goblin.

Here is the complete Open Beta playable character roster:

  • Fighting Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther
  • Unbreakable X-Men: Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger
  • Amazing Guardians: Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker
  • Samurai Outriders: Ghost Rider, Blade
  • Knights of Doom: Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin

Players will also be able to battle across six stages, including Marvel's New York (Day and Night variants), Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, and Wakanda. Several game modes will be available to test, including Casual Match, Ranked Match, Local Versus, Open Lobby, and Training Mode.

Surprisingly, Open Beta players will also get the first-ever preview of Episode Mode, the game's story campaign presented through comic-style visuals. Players can experience the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline, which follows Spider-Man as he assembles his team to confront a threat to Earth.

Episode Mode features full localisation presented in the official version of the game. There are 10 languages, including US English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Text-only localisation will also be available in an additional seven languages.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta dates and platforms

The Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta begins on 24 July and runs for 72 hours. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Pre-downloads will open two hours before the beta begins, allowing players to jump in as soon as the servers go live.

The Open Beta is free for everyone, so there is no need to register or apply for access. Simply download the Open Beta from your preferred platform, whether through the PlayStation Store, Steam, or the Epic Games Store.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag-team fighting game featuring comic-inspired visuals, vibrant art, a story mode, and a wide range of fighting game features. It launches on 6 August, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC, less than two weeks after the Open Beta concludes.
