Bethesda has reaffirmed that Fallout is one of the studio's biggest priorities moving forward. "Fallout is one of our biggest priorities today," the developer said, describing Fallout 5 as its "long-range destination". Later in the announcement, Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 5 has officially entered preproduction. The studio also revealed that multiple Fallout projects are currently in active development, although it did not share further details on what all of those projects entail.
Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas remasters are officially in development
Perhaps the biggest surprise for longtime Fallout fans is that Bethesda has officially confirmed it is working on remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. "We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences," Bethesda said. “While we're not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.” Bethesda did not announce release dates or platforms for either remaster, but the confirmation marks the first official acknowledgement that both games are receiving the remaster treatment.
Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout project
Bethesda also confirmed it is once again teaming up with Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. "The wasteland continues to expand as we team up once again with our longtime friends at Obsidian Entertainment," Bethesda said. "We're happy to confirm they're working with us on a new Fallout project. We'll have more to share in the future."
The company did not reveal whether the collaboration is a new game, expansion, or another type of Fallout experience, but it marks the first officially confirmed Fallout project involving the two studios in years.
Fallout 76 Raven Rock expansion confirmed for next year
Bethesda also outlined what's next for its live Fallout games, confirming that Fallout 76 will receive a major expansion next year titled Raven Rock.
The expansion is set to serve as a prequel story to Fallout 3, continuing the online RPG's post-launch support. Meanwhile, Fallout 4 recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary after surpassing 35 million copies sold, with Bethesda noting that the game continues to attract new players each year.
Fallout Shelter reaches 250 million players
Fallout Shelter also remains a major part of the franchise's future. Bethesda revealed the mobile game has now surpassed 250 million players worldwide, with new Seasons planned for future updates.
The studio also announced that an unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is currently in development alongside Amazon Studios and Kilter Films.
Beyond Fallout, Bethesda shared updates on several of its other major franchises. The studio confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI remains its primary development focus. Meanwhile, Starfield will continue receiving new stories, gameplay improvements and additional updates as it enters its third year, with new Starborn content planned for next year.
Bethesda also said it will continue investing in player-created content across its games, with creators having earned more than US$10 million in royalties through its Creations platform.
