Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition have officially revealed Gears of War: E-Day’s multiplayer mode, with a gameplay trailer and dev overview showing off PvP and PvE features. Interestingly, the game is opting for a progression system devoid of battle passes.

Does Gears of War: E-Day have a Horde mode?

Gears of War’s upcoming prequel E-Day has officially unveiled its multiplayer modes, including the return of PvP and PvE modes. First off, Gears of War PvE is returning with Horde Siege, a 12-player three-squad mode. In this large-scale Horde mode, three squads of four will set out on their own separate missions in the same map. They’ll be able to run into each other in the wild and help each other out, when they’re not fending for themselves.

Additionally, Versus–the game’s PvP mode–is returning. Gears of War: E-Day’s new movement mechanics, like jumping, will also be incorporated in PvP for a refreshed multiplayer experience compared to Gears 5. Four Versus modes will be available at launch: Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition, and Crucible.

More information on these modes is available on the Gears of War website.

Gears of War: E-Day is launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC on 6 October, 2026. An early access open beta is also available, kicking off on 6 August for those who pre-ordered the game or have a Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass subscription.
