A Kratos game is officially in the works.

After much speculation, God of War Laufey has officially secured a release date: 16 February, 2027. The highly-anticipated spin-off locked in its release date at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 this weekend, where a panel was held for the game.

Additionally, developer Santa Monica Studio has also confirmed that the game will be directly connected to a Kratos-led God of War game, which will follow after its release.

When is God of War Laufey coming out?

At a God of War Laufey panel held at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, developer Santa Monica Studio officially announced a release date for the game. Just as many expected, it's set to launch quite soon, on 16 February, 2027; merely seven months from now. The game will also ship with physical discs, with Sony set to stop production of physical disc-in-boxes in 2028.

The Comic-Con panel featured the game’s stars and development staff from Santa Monica Studio, including the latter’s new head of creative Cory Barlog. According to IGN, Barlog also confirmed that a Kratos-led God of War game is not only slated for release after Laufey, but is directly connected to the game, to boot.

Barlog said:

"Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next. Phranque has been around since the beginning. It's interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing."

Hence, fans of the titular god of war–Kratos–need not worry about the character taking a backseat in the franchise moving forward. God of War Laufey was originally revealed with 20 minutes of gameplay during the June 2026 State of Play, revealing that the game will take place in the “Everywhen,” which is the ostensible afterlife of the gods. The game will follow Laufey as she navigates this strange new world, and battles fallen gods.

God of War Laufey will launch on 16 February, 2027, on PlayStation 5.
