As Meccha Chameleon surpasses 15 million copies sold, the game is preparing for its first-ever collaboration this week.

Just nine days after smashing the 10 million sales milestone, viral indie game Meccha Chameleon has reached another remarkable achievement, surpassing 15 million copies sold in less than a month.

The new sales milestone was revealed via the game's Steam page, where the developers posted: "We hit 15 million in sales! Thanks a million! Get ready for a new collaboration with a famous Japanese star next week!"

Alongside the milestone, the developer also announced the game's first-ever collaboration, teasing the arrival of a "famous Japanese star". While no further details were shared, the crossover is confirmed to launch this week. An earlier post also hinted that a "collaboration map" is in development, likely tied to the mystery Japanese star.

How many copies has Meccha Chameleon sold?

As confirmed over the weekend, Meccha Chameleon has now sold over 15 million copies, reaching the milestone in less than a month after its 9th June release.

The achievement is particularly remarkable considering the game's humble origins. Meccha Chameleon was developed by a single programmer and an artist in just two months, launching with a simple interface and an affordable price tag. Despite its modest production, the game's innovative multiplayer hide-and-seek concept quickly captured traction.

Participants disguise themselves by painting their bodies to blend into the environment, while hunters race against the clock to spot and eliminate them. The concept proved perfect to become the next friendslop phenomenon, with creators and players sharing countless entertaining clips that helped propel the game across the internet.

With a relatively low US$6 price, it didn’t take long for the game's sales to climb rapidly. It reached one million copies in four days, three million within a week, surpassed 10 million in just 16 days, and has now soared to 15 million copies sold in only 25 days.

Its success has eclipsed many AAA releases that required years longer to develop and were backed by far larger budgets and studios. Resident Evil: Requiem, released in February, became the franchise's fastest-selling title with seven million copies sold in just over a month. Forza Horizon 6 reportedly surpassed six million copies in 16 days, while the highly anticipated open-world RPG Crimson Desert sold six million copies within three months of launch.

Meccha Chameleon continues to maintain its incredible momentum, cementing itself as one of the year's standout releases.
