Final Fantasy VII Revelation leak points to story expansion and up to nine DLC packs
Fans are hoping that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, or Genesis would be part of the DLC plans.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may have skipped a proper story expansion, but Square Enix could have much bigger post-launch plans for the trilogy's final game.
A series of updates to Final Fantasy VII Revelation's listing on the Epic Games Store backend has revealed references to multiple DLCs, including placeholders for up to nine packs and, most notably, a "Story Expansion Pass".
There is still no indication of exactly what any of the DLC contains, and the placeholders could cover everything from costumes and bonus items to much larger additions. The Story Expansion Pass, however, has naturally caught the most attention, as neither of the previous games in the trilogy offered anything under that name.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation could get the story DLC Rebirth never had
Final Fantasy VII Remake did eventually receive a substantial new story chapter in Episode Intermission, which starred Yuffie and originally launched as part of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PlayStation 5.
Rebirth went in the opposite direction. Its additional content was limited to smaller bonuses such as the Magic Pot Accessory summon Materia and Reclaimant Choker accessory, with no Episode Intermission-style expansion released after launch.
According to Kotaku's report, game director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that decision in 2024, saying that while the team had heard the demand for more DLC, getting the third game out sooner was the bigger priority.
"We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing," he told The Daily Star. "I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible."
Revelation is in a very different position. As the concluding chapter of the trilogy, there is no fourth game waiting for the team to immediately move towards, leaving far more room for Square Enix to expand on the finale after launch.
Hamaguchi has already left that possibility open. Speaking to ntower earlier this year, he said any DLC after the third game would ultimately depend on continued support for Final Fantasy VII.
"As for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy VII as both a title and a franchise," he said. "If there is significant demand, we'd certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively."
Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, and Genesis are already part of the DLC theories
With no actual details attached to the leaked Story Expansion Pass, attention has quickly turned to what Square Enix could still bring into the Remake trilogy before closing the book on the project.
Some of the biggest hopes involve material from the animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and third-person shooter Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.
Genesis is another name being thrown around. The primary antagonist of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has yet to be confirmed for Revelation, but some fans are hoping the final game or its possible additional content could give him a role.
None of those theories are confirmed, and the Epic Games Store backend does not reveal whether the nine DLC placeholders are major additions or simply smaller packs. Even the Story Expansion Pass could ultimately take a very different form from the kind of full story chapter fans are imagining.
Still, if Square Enix does intend to pull more characters and stories from the wider Final Fantasy VII universe into the Remake project, Revelation is its last chance to do so within the trilogy itself.
Final Fantasy VII Remake first launched for PlayStation 4 in 2020, with its enhanced Intergrade version later releasing for PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is also now available across all platforms.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the trilogy, is currently set to launch in Spring 2027.
