What is MapleStory Classic World?

MapleStory Classic World is a reimagination of MapleStory's beloved pre-Big Bang experience, aimed to recreate the gameplay that defined the MMORPG in the late 2000s.

MapleStory, developed by Nexon’s subsidiary Wizet, became one of the world's most popular MMORPGs, courtesy of its free-to-play model and adorable pixel-art visuals. It was also easy to pick up, while its community-driven gameplay made it a favourite during the rise of social gaming.

The game enjoyed what many fans consider its "golden era" between 2005 and 2010, before the massive Big Bang update overhauled its entire gameplay, affecting progression and core mechanics. While MapleStory remains active today, Nexon has since acknowledged the enduring fan demand for the original pre-Big Bang experience.

Announced in April 2025, MapleStory Classic World aims to recapture that old-school gameplay with slower levelling, greater emphasis on social interaction, and the return of classic mechanics such as Party Quests, the original Explorer classes, and the traditional scroll-based equipment upgrade system.

MapleStory Classic World will be a standalone game running alongside the modern version of MapleStory. The game has yet to receive an official release date.
