What is new in Planet Zoo 2?

Game developer Frontier Developments is ready to show off some rather impressive-looking gameplay for Planet Zoo 2, which represents a generational leap in graphical fidelity and simulation complexity from the first game. The game is also now available to pre-order on all platforms.

Planet Zoo 2 features detailed fur, feathers, and scales on its animal species, along with a higher focus on rewilding and conservation efforts. Players will be able to not only build up their zoos, but also release animals back into their natural habitats.

The game’s new trailer focuses on habitat construction and the Scottish Highland Wildlife Reserve, with animals like the Red Deer, Masai Giraffe, Blackspotted Puffer, White-tailed Eagle, Great Hornbill, and Eurasian Beaver. The Grey Wolf is also in the game, along with the Sumatran Tiger, Hawksbill Turtle and Toco Toucan.

Players will be able to build up their zoos with lots of scenery pieces and blueprints, creating the ideal habitats for their animals. Aquariums and aviaries also open up new possibilities for zoos to house underwater and flying animals. Animals will also have shifting moods, which might require different things from their zookeepers.

When is Planet Zoo 2 coming out?

Planet Zoo 2 is launching on 13 October, 2026. The game will cost US$49.99 for the Standard Edition, and US$64.99 for the Deluxe Edition.
