Final Fantasy VII Revelation replaces Sephiroth voice actor Tyler Hoechlin with Travis Willingham
Tyler Hoechlin will… never be a memory.
Square Enix has officially confirmed that it’s recasting the English voice role for Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. In a recent interview with content creator Maximilian Dood, game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Cloud’s arch-nemesis will sound a little different in the remake’s conclusion.
This is because Tyler Hoechlin, who voiced Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Remake and its sequel Rebirth, is leaving the role. Replacing him is Travis Willingham, who joins his fellow Critical Role member Matt Mercer (Vincent Valentine) on the English voice cast.

Why was Sephiroth recast in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is recasting one of the remake trilogy’s most iconic characters: Sephiroth, the One-Winged Angel. A recent reveal trailer for the game at Summer Game Fest 2026 showed off the returning villain with a much deeper and more gravelly voice, which fans took to mean that the character had been recast.
In an interview held between director Naoki Hamaguchi and Maximilian Dood following the reveal, the director confirmed that a change had been made in the English voice cast. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth’s actor Tyler Hoechlin is leaving the cast, as Hamaguchi explained that he was unavailable during Revelation’s development.
Hoechlin might be best-known for his roles in live-action media, ranging from playing Derek Hale in Teen Wolf and Clark Kent/Superman in Superman & Lois. Replacing Hoechlin as Sephiroth is Travis Willingham, a member of the Dungeons & Dragons liveplay group Critical Role, and noted voice actor.
Willingham has played Thor in Marvel Rivals, Phenomaman in Dispatch, Aced in Kingdom Hearts III, and more. His fellow Critical Role member and Dungeon Master, Matt Mercer, is also in Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s cast as the newly-playable Vincent Valentine.
When is Final Fantasy VII Revelation coming out?
Final Fantasy VIII Revelation is officially launching on all platforms in Spring 2027, marking the first entry in this trilogy to break timed PlayStation console exclusivity.
