The next Fire Emblem game has officially been revealed.

This week’s Nintendo Direct officially revealed Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the next installment in the celebrated tactical-RPG franchise. The upcoming game will feature the series’ trademark tactical battles, but here’s a twist: it appears to be either a prequel or a sequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave announced for 2026 release

Developer Intelligent Systems has lined up its next Fire Emblem game. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave was teased with a new trailer released earlier today, showcasing its Roman-inspired colosseums and anime aesthetic.

Sharp-eyed viewers will also have noticed quite a few Fire Emblem: Three Houses nods throughout the trailer, raising suspicion that this sequel might be set within the same world. The trailer’s ending confirms as much beyond a shadow of a doubt, thanks to the sudden appearance of an adult Sothis–who appears as a child in Three Houses.

However, Sothis being grown up in this Fire Emblem installment might not be firm indication that it's a sequel. In fact, her background might suggest that this is more of a prequel, set in Three Houses’ far-flung past.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches sometime in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.
