007 First Light shows off flashy gameplay and 2026 release date in State of Play presentation

007 First Light has shown off new gameplay and a release date.
IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond video game, 007 First Light, has officially set a release date: 27 March, 2026. The developer showed off gameplay and more details from the game during a State of Play presentation held this week. A collector’s edition for the game was also revealed, including a few collectibles for a US$299 price tag.
New gameplay for 007 First Light unveiled
This week’s PlayStation State of Play presentation showcased over half an hour’s worth of gameplay footage from 007 First Light. The footage was taken from “an extended mission playthrough” following Bond as he hunts down agent 009, who appears to have fallen out of the Mi6’s good graces. To do so, Bond disguises himself as a valet–only to have to chase 009 out of the building with another secret agent in tow.
This car chase turns into a shootout at an airfield, which then turns into Bond sneaking onto an airplane mid-flight. The gameplay shown off seems to be rather Uncharted-esque, though fans of IO Interactive’s previous games–the Hitman trilogy in particular–will notice a few stealthy gameplay elements reminiscent of that series as well.
In the later section of the State of Play presentation, IO Interactive emphasised that Bond will have a variety of gadgets at his disposal to help distract enemies during stealth sequences. This includes a watch that can fire lasers to destroy objects in the environment, and a smoke bomb.
While this is early footage, it should be noted that some of the gameplay didn’t seem quite as polished as it should’ve been for a big showcase like this. Major frame drops could be seen during the demo’s big shootout sequences, which viewers online have noted to be “rough.”
