Hollow Knight Silksong will offer free Upgrade Packs for Nintendo Switch 2 players

An update from the developers confirms what Switch 2 owners can expect when they step into Pharloom.
Team Cherry have confirmed how Hollow Knight: Silksong editions will work across Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, with a free upgrade path for players who want enhanced features on the new hardware.
In a Kickstarter update, the studio explained that original Switch keys will be sent directly to backers by email. Switch 2 owners will then be able to redeem those keys as normal, but will need to download the Hollow Knight: Silksong Upgrade Pack from the Nintendo eShop to enable the upgraded features.
“For Nintendo Switch 2 players, after redeeming your Nintendo Switch key and downloading the game, you will additionally need to download the (free) Hollow Knight: Silksong Upgrade Pack from the eShop to unlock the platform's enhanced features,” Team Cherry said.
The announcement did not explicitly state whether the Upgrade Pack is exclusive to backers, but the wording strongly suggests it will be made available to all Switch 2 users.
Kickstarter backer surveys have already closed as of time of writing, but many admitted the long wait had caused them to forget that they even backed the project. One fan commented: “It has been so long that I actually forgot I was a backer of the original! Congrats on finally getting here, Team Cherry!”
The same user commented on the Kickstarter update that they didn’t receive an email, but because they were so happy and excited about the release, they said they “would honestly prefer to buy the game to support [Team Cherry] anyway.”
Silksong will be available on Ultrawide for PC
On top of these fresh updates for the Nintendo Switch 2, Matthew Griffin, Marketing and Publishing for Team Cherry and Hollow Knight: Silksong just recently confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that PC players will be able to enjoy the game on Ultrawide settings, with a max aspect ratio of 21:9.
Silksong will retail at only US$5 more expensive than the first Hollow Knight game at US$19.99 in the United States, €19.99 in Europe, and ¥2300 in Japan. The price had been hinted at through a short-lived Gamestop listing and later corroborated by leaker Billbil-kun, but Team Cherry has now confirmed it officially.
The long-awaited release date was also announced during Gamescom: 4 September 2025. With pricing, platform details, and a clear upgrade path now set, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally prepared to make its long-anticipated debut.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on 4 September, 2025 at 10:00 PM SGT or 11PM JST or 4:00 PM CEST or 7:00 AM PT.
The game will be available on Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and via Xbox Game Pass on day one.
