Is Life is Strange: Double Exposure getting adapted too?

Life is Strange is officially getting a TV adaptation. A live-action TV series based on the iconic 2015 adventure game has been greenlit at Amazon Prime Video, as the streaming service continues to collect game adaptations like Infinity Stones. The End of the F***ing World writer Charlie Covell is set to showrun the series, with Story Kitchen producing.

Life is Strange TV series is a go at Amazon Prime Video

Square Enix has been trying to get the ball rolling on a Life is Strange adaptation since 2016, with the rights to the series even being sold to Hulu as far back in 2017. This week, however, the adaptation has begun to truly take shape. Amazon Prime Video has officially acquired the rights to produce a Life is Strange TV adaptation and has greenlit such a project, with a creative team already in place.

Charlie Covell, a writer who previously worked on Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World and Kaos, will showrun and executive produce the series. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are set to executive produce under the Story Kitchen banner. Square Enix, Lucky Chap, and Amazon MGM are also involved as producers.

According to Variety, Story Kitchen provided the following statement:

“Story Kitchen has always believed that ‘Life is Strange’ deserved to be more than just a game—it’s a cultural touchstone. After a decade-long journey, we’re honored to be bringing this beloved story to Amazon MGM alongside our incredible partners at Square Enix, our brilliant showrunner/writer Charlie Covell, and the amazing team at LuckyChap. Together, this thoughtfully assembled dream team is ready to share Life is Strange with the world in an entirely new way!”

The series also has an official logline, which confirms that it will be a direct adaptation of 2015’s Life is Strange:

“[The series follows Max,] a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.”

If the Life is Strange TV series’ first season fully adapts the events of the first game, it will have an interesting future ahead of it. It could directly adapt the rest of Max Caulfield’s story, as seen in 2024’s Life is Strange: Double Exposure, or it could adapt other games in the franchise. Life is Strange 2 followed the Diaz brothers, in a largely unrelated story from the first game.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit served as a prologue to Life is Strange 2, following one of its side characters. After the release of Life is Strange 2, Deck Nine Games took over the franchise with the release of Life is Strange: True Colors, which followed a new protagonist named Alex Chen. The studio had previously worked on Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a prequel game following Chloe Price.

Between these games and their subsequent graphic novel continuations, there is certainly no shortage of source material for Amazon Prime Video to pull from. The streamer is no stranger to game adaptations, with Tomb Raider, God of War, Wolfenstein, and Warhammer 40,000 adaptations also in development.

Amazon Prime Video also has a second season of Fallout set for release later this year.
