Stardew Valley 1.7 update confirmed but Haunted Chocolatier isn’t in trouble

A fresh update is in the works for Stardew Valley, but it won’t come at the cost of Eric Barone’s other project.
Stardew Valley has always been the game that keeps on giving, and it looks like that tradition isn’t slowing down any time soon. Eric Barone, better known as “ConcernedApe”, has confirmed that update 1.7 is officially in development. The news first surfaced during the Symphony of Seasons concert in Seattle, where Barone casually revealed it to the crowd, later confirming it again on X.
That was enough to set excitement buzzing among fans, who know a numbered update usually promises fresh content rather than a simple round of bug fixes. With the last major patch now well behind us, players have been eager for signs of what’s next.
What’s next for Pelican Town?
Barone has kept quiet about the details, but it’s easy to see why speculation is running wild. The 1.6 update, which landed in March 2024, was a hefty one: it added the Meadowlands Farm, a new three-day festival, extra crops, and even more interactions with Pelican Town’s cast of characters.
With that kind of precedent, expectations for 1.7 are understandably high. Could it bring another farm type to change the way you begin your adventure? Or perhaps fresh seasonal events to shake up the town calendar? Every update so far has delivered a surprise or two, and fans are confident this one will be no different.
Even without teasers, the idea of more free content is enough to keep players excited. Stardew Valley has always thrived on its mix of farming, exploration, and quirky community life, and any addition, big or small, tends to ripple across the whole experience.
Haunted Chocolatier still on the menu
Not every reaction has been unreserved joy, though. Some fans immediately worried about what the announcement might mean for Barone’s other project, Haunted Chocolatier. First revealed in 2021, the game swaps out farming for running a magical chocolate shop, with plenty of exploration and eccentric characters along the way.
Those concerns weren’t unfounded. Back in April, Barone told PC Gamer he wouldn’t add more to Stardew Valley until Haunted Chocolatier was complete. So, when update 1.7 was announced, many assumed the chocolatey adventure would be pushed back once again.
Barone has since cleared the air. In a follow-up post on X, he reassured players that 1.7 “will not hinder Haunted Chocolatier development.”
Both projects are moving ahead, with Stardew Valley set for another content update and Haunted Chocolatier continuing its separate path toward release.
