Complaints have been piling up over one dominant pairing, and NetEase is stepping in.

NetEase Games is set to release a new patch for Marvel Rivals on 17 July, bringing much-needed hero balance updates, particularly for players using Wolverine’s powerful new synergy with Phoenix.

In the recently launched Season 3, Wolverine’s Team-Up Ability with Phoenix has caused headaches for Vanguard players, thanks to its overwhelming burst and survivability potential. The developers have now confirmed nerfs are on the way to address the imbalance.

The patch is scheduled to go live at 5:00 PM SGT / 2:00 AM PST on 17 July.

Wolverine is getting nerfed

Season 3 introduced Duelist Phoenix to the roster, alongside a new synergy with Wolverine called Primal Flame. When activated, it surrounds Wolverine in damaging flames during Feral Leap, while also granting him lifesteal. This has allowed him to dive deep into enemy lines and shrug off damage with ease.

However, players have voiced growing frustration, especially those who main Vanguard heroes. A popular Reddit post called out the imbalance, noting how tanks are already struggling to stay relevant and giving Wolverine even more sustain only made matters worse.

To address the issue, NetEase is nerfing both Wolverine’s base kit and his Phoenix team-up ability. These are the confirmed adjustments, according to the official post.

Wolverine

  • Berserk Claw Strike base damage increased from 6 → 8
  • Max Rage percentage damage reduced from 4.5% → 3.5%
  • Regenerative Healing Factor cooldown increased from 90s → 105s
  • Cooldown reduction on KO increased from 10s → 12s
  • Primal Flame (Phoenix - Wolverine)
  • Lifesteal during Phoenix Warrior reduced from 33% → 25%

NetEase says the goal is to “temper Logan’s rage” and reduce his overall survivability in team fights. The studio also stated that it will continue to monitor balance and make further adjustments as needed.

What else Is coming in Season 3?

The Wolverine nerf isn’t the only thing arriving in Marvel Rivals this month. From 18–24 July, players can take part in the game’s Summer Event, which introduces swimsuit-themed skins for heroes including Thor, Loki, the Punisher, Luna Snow, and Psylocke.

NetEase had previously unveiled its full Season 3 roadmap, which also showcased Phoenix’s debut and cosmetics like the Symbiote Storm skin. You can check out the full roadmap here.
