Anyone who played the first Death Stranding shouldn't be surprised that its sequel, Death Stranding 2, has launched with a cast of big names and surprising cameos. One of these cameos is a little more surprising than the others, however: Usada Pekora, a popular VTuber who debuted back in 2019, can be encounted in the game! Like many character cameos in Death Stranding 2, Usada Pekora appears as a Prepper, an NPC for whom Sam Porter Bridges can carry out deliveries. 

If you’re a fan of the VTuber, you might be wondering how to find them (Pekora is referred to in-game with they/them pronouns) in Death Stranding 2. Worry not, we have a guide that will help you not only find Usada Pekora, but also pick up a hat themed after the VTuber that makes Sam blurt out “Peko!” at random moments. Yes, really. 

Where can you find Usada Pekora in Death Stranding 2?

Usada Pekora is not an optional encounter in Death Stranding 2, so players will be able to meet them simply by playing through the main story. Soon after meeting Heartman, Sam will be given a new order to find a person named the Pizza Chef in eastern Australia, and connect them to the chiral network. 

Upon meeting the Pizza Chef, they’ll be given another main order: they need to deliver a piping hot pizza to someone named the Data Scientist. The journey there might be dangerous for anyone who hasn’t equipped Sam’s newly-attained AI camouflage suit, however, as homing missiles have been set up in front of the Data Scientist’s base to keep brigands at bay.

Players will also have to keep in mind that they need to keep the pizza flat and undamaged while transporting it to the Data Scientist, which must also be done as quickly as possible, as it’s an express order! Pro tip: use an off-roader vehicle, and you should be able to get there in a snap while keeping your cargo at level. The only tricky bit is navigating the mountainous terrain between the Pizza Chef and the Data Scientist, and avoiding those homing missiles. 

Eventually, you’ll reach the Data Scientist, and surprise, surprise; it’s Usada Pekora! Pekora accepts your pizza and even makes a social media post later on about the pizza box’s secret compartment, which contains guns. That might seem a bit random at first, but it actually ties into a storyline for the Pizza Chef that players can unlock once his connection is levelled up to two stars.

How to get Usada Pekora’s Nousagi hat

Getting Usada Pekora’s hat is simple. After bringing their base into the chiral network, all the player has to do is complete a few more additional orders or return lost cargo found in the wild. The objective is to get Sam’s connection with Pekora up to two stars. 

Once that is achieved, Pekora will automatically gift the player with a Nousagi hat after their most recent order is completed. The Nousagi hat is a cute rabbit-themed hat furnished with two carrots, which Sam can wear to decrease the rate at which his stamina is depleted. 

Arguably, its best feature is also its most useless one: when Sam wears the Nousagi hat, he will randomly shout “Peko!” during various actions, like downing enemies or greeting other porters.
