Five Nights at Freddy’s hits theaters (and streaming) this week!

October 1st might be the start of spooky season, but the final two weeks of the month tend to be where Halloween really starts to get going. Most live-service games like Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone kicked off their Halloween events just recently, and horror movies like Saw 10 and Five Nights at Freddy’s are finally hitting theaters. Pumpkins, sweet treats and spooky tricks aren’t enough - I need ghosties and mayhem onscreen to feel that annual chill run down my spine.

This week in gaming

We’re not quite there yet (Halloween is only next Tuesday), but there’s plenty of scares to enjoy this week in gaming. One of my most anticipated releases of the year, Alan Wake 2, finally launches this Friday, finally giving fans closure on the titular character 13 years after the first game’s release. Remedy Entertainment (Control, Quantum Break) is well-known for making incredibly atmospheric gaming experiences, and it looks like all their efforts to combine live-action cinema with action-packed gameplay are coming to fruition here. Plus, this is their first shot at a true survival-horror game - and we can’t have too many of those.

Cities Skylines 2 is also out this week, and while Alan Wake this is not, it’s going to be just as cosy for fans of SimCity-like city builders. The first game had me in its clutches for years straight went it came out, but I’m hearing some shady things about its performance - so I’m going to hold off for now. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 comes out on October 24, giving everyone a chance to play the first three games in an iconic franchise in a remastered format. Ghostrunner 2 is also out on October 26, delivering more of the fast-paced futuristic parkour that got players hooked the first time around.

This week in everything else

There are a lot of games out this week, but Saw 10 is also hitting cinemas in a few SEA regions this week (it already came out weeks ago everywhere else). The franchise might have lost its lustre a few entries in, but people seem to think this one is actually a return to form. Most importantly, Five Nights at Freddy’s is finally hitting cinemas this week - and it’s streaming on Peacock where that’s available.

This movie adaptation has been a long time coming. The core premise is familiar: a security guard starts a night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where four animatronic mascots (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy) lie abandoned. Unfortunately, all four mascots are quite intent on making sure no one leaves the restaurant alive after midnight. I sincerely hope everyone who’s grown up (or is growing up) watching all those Five Nights at Freddy’s theory videos on YouTube enjoys the hell out of this one!

How about you? What are you playing/watching this week?
