ESL Major Series One returns this fall, with a few modifications in its system and prize pool. So far, the core teams list includes two TI3 participants, while three more squads that will skip the Cup phase entirely will be announced later. The online phase will span from September 2 to October 10.
More and more tournaments emerge only a few days after the end of The International, and an action-packed winter season is to be expected once again. ESL just has announced the Winter version of Major Series One, that will take place from the 2nd of September to the 10th of October. The tournament now features an increased prizepool of $39000
At the time of this article, seven teams have accepted their invitations to participate in the four EMS One Cups. One more participant will move straight to the Cup phase of the tournament, while the remaining four slots will be filled by the victors of the A-Series. Along with the Core competitors, three renowned squads will receive a direct invite to the Group Stage, which will take place when all the four cups are over, to decide the teams that will be moving to the LAN finals.
Invited teams:
Mousesports
Fnatic
iNfernity
aAa
Dargoneblaydes
Flip.sid3
Team Menace
TBA
The Group stage will feature 12 teams in total, including the three direct invitees, the four Cup winners and five extra teams that receive the highest amount of points. Unlike last year, a cup winner qualifies straight to the group stage, and does not have to rely on points to do so. The group stage participants will be divided in three groups of four, and only six teams will make it to the offline playoffs.
As far as the LAN finals are concerned, the six teams to qualify will be joined by two more teams from other regions, raising the number of offline finalists to eight. However, instead of a single elimination system, there will be another group stage (GSL format), and the strongest four will reach the playoff bracket. More details about the date and location of the LAN finals are coming soon.
