
Virtus.Pro recieves $100,000,000 investment
Virtus.Pro received one of the biggest investments in esports history this week, as billionaire Alisher Usmanov injected the Russian organisation with a $100,000,000 sum. Ivan Streshinsky, Member of the Board of Directors of USM Holdings, a company through which Usmanov is making the investment, had the following to say about the investment:
“E-sports are a unique proposition, uniting the sports, media and the internet industries. It is a fast-growing market, which has already generated huge interest around the world and Virtus.pro is the leader in the e-sports industry in Russia. I am confident that the support from USM will spur the company’s further development and enable it to take its projects to a whole new level.”MTG buys majority share of ESEA
Another major financial move took place this week as the Sweden-based financial organisation Modern Times Group acquired a 74% share of ESEA eSports league, effectively buying out the company completely. The entire management and ownership has been transferred to the new investors; MTG is now in negotiations with Dreamhack over the acquisition of a part share of the company as well.
DH Cluj schedule released
As the last major of the year looms closer, Dreamhack has been slowly releasing more information on Cluj-Napoca; now, the organsation has released the full schedule for the event, as well as format information. SK loses k0nfig
The German-based team lost their most recent Danish addition, as Kristian ‘’k0nfig’’ Wienecke announced this week he will be leaving the organisation due to friction between players, both professionally and outside of the game. SK Gaming has been showing poor results, most recently their 9-0 loss streak at the ESL ESEA Pro League.
Animal Squad signed by Legacy
It was revealed this week that Animal Squad, the Austrailian squad that recently qualified for DH Cluj has been signed by new organisation, Legacy eSports, who own a relatively successful League of Legends team, also based in Australia. Legacy had the following to say on the move:
“Here at Legacy we wanted to make sure that we didn’t enter the CS:GO scene without intention and care and we have been in discussion with the team for many months. “Being the first CS team that Legacy has taken on, we are extremely keen to help build the organisation’s reputation as one of Oceania’s top Esports organisations.”
