With slightly short of two months left till the commencement of the ELEAGUE Major 2017, the organisers have released information regarding the format viewers will see for the initial stage and qualifiers for the tournament. The major qualifier and group stage will see the Swiss format, whereby teams will never face each other more than once and will be paired according to similar records. Currently only eight teams have been decided to participate at the tournament, the very same teams that assumed the top eight placements at the previous major, ESL One: Cologne 2016:
The remaining eight teams will be selected via the Major qualifier for the tournament, taking place on the 15th - 19th December at the Turner Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Sixteen teams from across the world will battle it out in the very same Swiss format, to determine eight teams that will be challenging the Legends.
