All we want from BlizzCon, is everything - Group Editorial

We weren't expecting Overwatch's closed beta to start before BlizzCon. But now that it has, is it too greedy to already ask for major announcements for the game at BlizzCon instead? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't... But we can't help ourselves, and have put down our wishlists below.

I want information on the payment or progression system. I think these panels to end a lot of concerns on how players will access Overwatch and how Blizzard will make a profit on it. We all want Overwatch to succeed, but in a way that is sustainable and doesn’t limit its competitive edge. I am hoping for a system similar to heroes but one that doesn’t limit hero options.
I also would love to see a detailed replay system. A way to look at your past games and better understand what happened. Anything that provides more information for the players is something I can get behind.
My Overwatch wish list is simple. More heroes with unique abilities that change the pace of the game- Lucio, Bastion and Tracer create dynamics in game that make play Overwatch unlike any other FPS. Also, a stealth hero, anything cyborg ninja related, and an explanation for that alien / old hollywood teaser. I’m losing sleep over this.

My list of wishes and predictions for Overwatch at Blizzcon match completely, because - as any game in early closed beta - OW lacks the basics. First thing on the list of essentials is any form of ranked play. In every game, not only competitive titles, the time invested must mean something, and for a game like Overwatch that’s progression through some sort of ladder. I don’t care about skins, or tints, or unlockables, rather about adding necessary “meat” to the game.
Part of that meat also includes different map modes. Despite their different names, Payload and Point capture play out very similarly. Diversifying the attackers/defenders set-up is something I really want to see with the game expanding further. Let’s bring those classic Capture the Flags, please!

The thing I want to know about most right now, is Overwatch’s progression system. Blizzard always does a good job of putting systems in place in their games that reward you for playing and give you goals to work towards. Currently we know that you can level up your Overwatch heroes, and that skin tints will eventually be in the game, but I want to know more about what we can expect. Will Overwatch feature master skins like in Heroes of the Storm? What about weapon skins or unlockable emotes? Will there be quests that reward people for playing specific heroes/maps? All of these questions I hope will be answered during Blizzcon.
As far as what kind of heroes I would love to see announced, I have always been a fan of the specialists from Heroes of the Storm. Characters like Abathur and The Lost Vikings really make Heroes as a MOBA unique, and I hope Blizzard will take the risk of creating unconventional characters for Overwatch as well. Of course mechanics like Abathur’s dont directly translate to an fps, but Blizzard should be able to come up with many more interesting mechanics for Overwatch heroes.

I believe we’ll be getting a new game mode announced. Class based shooters rely on game mode and map variety to keep players interested, and while Overwatch currently has a plethora of beautiful maps, their isn’t much variety to the game play across said maps. Classic FPS game modes like King of the Hill and Capture the Flag would be a welcome addition to the Overwatch universe. Hopefully Blizzard can also put their own unique spin on established game modes to make something new and grand.

The development team is still extremely busy with creating new content just a few days after the beta release, as became evident with the announcement of the new hero D.VA. It should therefore be no surprise if another new hero, maybe even more, will be announced at Blizzcon. The same goes for new maps: it is a standard feature so it can be expected to be added. I’m hoping for something radically unexpected to be announced. Blizzard is very conservative when it comes to game modes. But how fantastic would it be if Overwatch would get a “Story Mode”. Likely? No, definitely not. Hype-record breaking? Absolutely. The lore of Overwatch has already been explored quite a bit, but I think Blizzard would hit the nail on the head if they let the community engage in it. The Omnic War plays a huge part in the history of Overwatch, and some of the heroes were actively involved in it. How this can be worked out? That’s up to the developers. That is, IF they decide to implement it. I can only hope they will.
